Older 2 Wire 2701 HG B?

Yesterday, I poked around a Savers Thrift Shop and found a 2 Wire 2701 HG-B gateway for a measly 2.99. It was missing the 5.1v 2A power supply, which I found to be no problem, since one already has an adapter of exact voltage/amps.

The Power supply I used is a Phihong, and it transmits 10 W. Even though it is not an OEM power supply for this particular 2 Wire, it works very well. With that being said, I am aware 2 Wire had a lot of duds for OEM power supplies.

When I plugged it in, one wasn't sure what to expect, acknowledging that many have had all sorts of issues with this particular model, especially the "troublesome" firmware, which was 5.29.109.5 (which was on this modem, too). Then I got to thinking, after I configured it, and got it on line with ease, it ran very well, while staying cool. I did some intense gaming, and played video streams of football games at same time, and had no issue as both functions ran flawlessly. It passed my stress tests and stayed cool, with ease.

Then, I noted the modem serial number as 7.2.3 on this 2 Wire. Something tells me this particular modem was from one of the earliest batches of this model that was manufactured a few years ago when it first came out. With that being said, is it conceivably possible the ones that were made later, such as ones that are presently on shelves at Best Buy, and stocked by AT & T stores are pieces of rubbish for most part, and earlier ones were more reliable, have better or larger chipset and components? Am I on to something here?

I like some to shed some light on the above. Am I just lucky to get the 1 out of 10 2 Wire 2701 HG B that works well, or on to something? Am I on some wild tangent? I am curious of what others think.

At this moment webmail is currently working.

Please be patient - it is being worked on.

It may not affect all our customers either.

Thanks....

My child has shown me that she can access sites that are banned by hitting back twice on the browser (IE windows XP ). I have tried this myself and it does work, I went to youtube.com and it came up as a banned site which is correct, but by hitting the back tab on the browser it then popped up.
my location

I've searched the forum and could not find this issue so hopefully this isn't redundant.
I have a NEW Samsung Moment through Sprint (new number, new account, new everything) When I hit my location (via GPS) it works great anywhere I'm at.
When I'm connected at home via WI-FI and hit my location it puts me back at an old address I haven't lived at in 2 years. I have the same DSL/wireless router from that address. I've done a hard reset on my router and reset all my home wireless settings. I've emailed 2wire support and ATT support, both say it's my phone. I know this isn't the case because it only happens when I connect to my home wireless network. Plus how would my phone know where I've lived in the past 5 years, give me a break.

Does any else have this problem or heard of this? I'm assuming when AT&T activated my DSL/Router they input my address and that address is stored somewhere that puts my location way off! Anyone know the process of activating the DSL 2wire router through ATT?

Does ZyXEL modems work on AT & T?

I am beginning to wonder if this brand of networking equipment work at all with AT & T NE. Is it compatible? I have tried over the past several months, a Prestige 643, 645 modem-router, and now a P-660m11 ADSL 2+ modem. None of them were able to get on line. All attempts to connect failed with ZyXEL. Asides this brand, just about everything else under the sun, from commercial stack switch/modems from foreign nations, and complex installations from Cisco equipment were successfully configured and connected to the Internet with out any issues.

Replacing old Speedstream 5360

Hello all,

I'm a long time SNET DSL user and have had a Speedstream 5360 for many years. A couple days ago some kind of surge took it out finally. I need to replace it and I see that the closest thing listed on the AT&T store site is: Motorola DSL Modem Model 2210.

Is that unit okay? And, is replacing the bad Speedstream as easy as just plugging the Motorola unit in and powering up? Meaning, do I just plug it in and it works, or do I have to call AT&T customer support and give them serial numbers or such to get the unit activated?

Thanks for any advice.

[OT] Tivo problem

(Not a DSL issue but there are some smart folks in this forum.)

My Tivo Series 2 has not connected (by telephone) since the same day that my alarm company did work on the security alarm telephone system (upgraded it due to change of prefixes in CT). However, I have another Tivo (HD, Series 3) that has not had any problem calling in.

Any advice on what to do?

thanks
Ken
