current pricing for dry loop options?

I just called to inquire about switching to dry loop dsl and dropping my AT&T pots service. I was a bit surprised to find out that the price for PRO service would be $40 and not $29-34 that I was expecting. I was quoted ELITE pricing for dry loop at $45/month.

Is this the correct pricing or is there some discretion by the customer service department?

I knew I would be paying more for the privelege of non-POTS service, but I didn't expect to pay $15 more per month for that service or $20 if I wanted 6meg.

Drops connection (tested by hooking direct to NID)

Greetings, I have a Zoom ADSLx6 with the wireless disabled.
Service is through an RT. The Tech told me I'm to far away to get faster speeds. I think she told me I'm at something over 10k'.

I have never been able to maintain connection 6 mo's + without running into a period where I continually drop
connection. Prior to this modem I used a Speedstream 5100? same problem.

Yesterday I was continually disconnecting so I hooked up the modem direct to the test port on the NID bypassing the house wiring. I dropped connection 6x within 20 minutes. Called ATT line tested good but after their test the connection problem was gone. Was connected all day after that. The logs are limited and don't seem to show the info I've seen in other posts but CRC errors downstream 2 upstream 9 all day.

It's raining this morning and the connection was dropped again (has dropped 3x while posting this). The log showed 2 downstream errors and 1400+ upstream errors before it rebooted. The next log showed 2300+ up errors before rebooting a short time later. The reboot zero's out the log.

When I have these connect problems I contact level1 line checks are done and/or they do something with the RT and the problem goes away. Does anyone know what they do at the RT ? Sometimes the process of just the line check eliminates the connection problem for a period of time. Why ? The last Tech I had out told me there is 2 things they do at the RT one is some type of circuit test and if that doesn't work they switch from A to B ?? The connection problem was eliminated before the Tech came so she called to see what they did at the RT. They didn't switch A to B but they did the other thing to the board. That was last month which fixed it until now.

SPAM Is Back

Has anyone noticed that the SPAM has started again? It appears they have relaxed or eliminated some of their filters. It was working great for me. I wish they would leave it alone. Now I am back to having to sort through my spam emails.

Better Modem or New ISP

Been using a Motorola 2210 Style:MSTATEA and I've only had it 8 months, yet it tends to run at 110 Feren, taken from a thermometer placed on the external shell. It's obviously hotter inside, and that decently is overheating.
When it tends to get hotter (haven't taken temp) the thing fails and I have to take it offline and let it cool down. ATT is sending me a new one, but I'm really sick of ATT other than there unlimited bandwith, and I'm wondering if there's any recommendations on a good modem? I run PPP on my router. I wouldn't be opposed to a ADSL PCI card, as I let my router handle that, though it would have to have Linux Drivers.
I switched from Sunflower Broadband that had a 80GB limit for me, was supposed to be 40, but needed more. Are there any other ISP's in Lawrence area that any ones aware of?

Thanks

Is dry DSL available at my location?

I found a post from about a year ago that said:

"If you clear your cookies and cache in your browser, and go to the att website, you can order dry dsl through the website as long as you dont put in your phone number in the website. You can see if your location qualifies for dry dsl, and see the prices available..

I did this and got this message:

"Our system indicates that our DSL service, AT&T High Speed Internet, is not available at your location. However, let's see if we have another solution for you: You may qualify for satellite broadband from AT&T. Learn More If DSL becomes available at my location, Contact Me"

I've had DSL Pro at this address for about four years. What gives, and how can I check for dry dsl availability without subjecting myself to an ATT customer service phone call?

Thanks!

Slow download speeds

I used to get quite good download speeds with my connection but now they seem to be quite a bit slower. I was originally on SBC and I guess it switched over to AT&T not long ago. When I run speed tests I get results that are all over the place. One will be for 3.5 mb then another will be 1.1 mb on the At&T speed tests. The dsl reports tests are usually between 1.0 mb and 1.8 mb. I am supposedly on the DSL plan for the maximum amount of bandwidth available to my area. I live in Little Rock.

When I try to download from the internet I get max speeds of about 150 kbs, but the average speed is closer to 75 or 80 kbs. I have a speedstream 4100 B modem that is not very old, no router, and Winxp OS.

A recent example was a download from a site that claimed to have uncapped bandwidth that should have resulted in good download speeds. I was getting about 70 kbs. That translates to about 15 to 20 hours for a 4.2 GB file. Is this normal?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Need a new modem, suggestions?

Well, a little backround I guess. I play World of Warcraft(yeah I know, bad, anyway), and I've been having a lot of problems recently disconnecting. To make a long story short, I've tried pretty much everything I could do to fix it and after talking with several people about it, and also someone at ATTs tech support, I need to get a new modem.

The modem I have is 4 years old, a 2Wire Homeportal 1000HW.

Assuming I do need a new modem, and since they're relatively inexpensive(at least some are) what would be a good replacement? And hopefully one that is covered under ATTs tech support? Just trying to fix this problem I've been having.

Pro Dry Loop Slower than Pro DSL w/ Voice

When I had ATT DSL Pro with Voice Line my speed was always well above 2.0 Mbps, but now that I have only a Dry Loop (no Voice Line) it never goes above 1.6 MBPS! Is this how ATT "punishes" those of us who drop their Voice Line?
Anyone else notice this?
