Hybrid 3 with Speedstream 5100b and Elite service

I've been having problems at night with a stalled connection and bursts of CRC errors.

Narrowed it down to a failing streetlight a couple of houses away and notified the power company to come and fix it.

However, I noticed in my log that I'm connecting using hybrid 3, my SN margin is around 11 dB, and my line attenuation is 47 dB.

I know that my house has daisychained wiring and my modem is at the end of the line.

What else can I do to get rid of hybrid 3 besides putting in a home run to the modem?

AT&T YAhoo Email Customers - servers are down

This is an FYI - the email servers are down at the moment.

No ETR but it is currently being worked on. This is affecting users that check email via an email client like Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora and the list goes on.

At this moment webmail is currently working.

Please be patient - it is being worked on.

It may not affect all our customers either.

Thanks.

New to DSL, new to this forum...

Hi... A few days ago I got my dad (in Kansas) setup with AT&T DSL Express (1.5 Mbps, all the speed he needs and also the highest speed AT&T offered at his house/location). I am visiting him from Ca... I have Cable Broadband back home so this is my first experience with DSL. His setup includes the 2wire 2701HG-B... I did all the setup stuff a few days ago and it all was pretty straightforward... I have reset the modem a couple of times just to see how that works. I have also pulled the power cable once and plugged it back in just to see how the modem resets. I want to learn as much as possible while I am here so when I go back to Ca I can hopefully be of help to my dad remotely.... I have noticed the loss of internet two or three times for a few seconds, typically in the evening... I also am trying to learn about the statistics I see on the modem/router reports... I installed filters on all the phone connections as instructed... I also reviewed the phone wiring in the house... The phone wire that runs to the DSL modem DOES run through some areas in the basement where it is bundled with other wires (not good I would guess) but we chose to "see how things work" before deciding to dive in and redo phone wiring... Let me publish some of what I am seeing in the modem/router statistics and could someone comment about whether what they see in retrains and so forth appears normal, bad, whatever???

Statistics
Collected for 10:19:26
Since Reset	Current 24-Hour Interval	Current 15-Minute Interval	Time Since Last Event
ATM Cell Header Errors:	373	373	0	0:28:38

DSL Training Errors:	1	1	0	10:15:30
DSL Training Timeouts:	0	0	0	0:00:00

DSL Loss of Signal Failures:	0	0	0	0:00:00
DSL Loss of Power Failures:	0	0	0	0:00:00
DSL Loss of Margin Failures:	0	0	0	0:00:00
DSL Cumulative Errored Seconds:	190	190	0	0:24:58
DSL Severely Errored Seconds:	3	3	0	9:59:12

DSL Uncorrected Blocks:	671	671	0	0:24:58
ISP Connection Establishment:	1	1	1	0:00:42

As you can see, I reset the router about 10 hours ago and there have been 4 DSL Retrains since... Is that normal??? Way too many??? Any input???

And here is what the Details page shows...

AT&T DSL goes out almost evening between 8-11PM

Really puzzled on this one since my line quality upon initial installation was good and the DSL Elite was rock solid from April till October. In October, AT&T started to put U-verse in my development and since then the line quality has gone down with the DSL dropping every evening between 8-11PM. Had a AT&T tech come out and there was virtually no signal loss between the NIC and the modem. He had no answer to my problem and suggested I would have to accept a lower speed. I suggested that he check the line quality from the CO to see where the drop off occurred but it fell on deaf ears. Of course, they are not putting U-verse in my phase because there is no existing cable. Any ideas or how I can get AT&T to clean up their lines which had been ok before? Thanks in advance.

AT&T DSL - ?? Sale to WISP for resale?

Router config. problem

Hi,

Very simple little desktop system with W2k sp4, etc. About as simple as a router app. can get.

ATT DSL Pro has been running reliably for years with SpeedStream 5100b modem, D-Link router.

The D-Link dies, I get a TP-Link TL-WR340G wireless Router to replace it. I am using it -only- as a wired router. Router info:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=4824256&sku=D145-1070&srkey=TP-Link%20TL-WR340

With the modem connected and working, I plug the new router in and everything works:

ipconfig IP Address. . . xx.yyy.198.135
Router IP Address: xx.yyy.198.135	Dynamic IP
Modem Connection IP Address	xx.yyy.198.135

At the end of the day, I power the system down. Next morn I boot system and the router is dysfunctional:

Router WAN IP Address: 00.000.000.000	Dynamic IP

I've replicated the problem many, many times. More device info if needed.

Any/all ideas, suggestions, etc much appreciated.

AT&T DSL and wireless N router problems

Hi everyone, Any help would be very much appreciated. I am a novice but generally can troubleshoot this type of stuff, but have now spent a good two days looking and I still am not completely sure. I don't have DSL myself so I am not completely familiar with idiosyncrasies it may have vs. cable.

I am trying to help my brother troubleshoot an issue he is having connecting wirelessly to his DSL connection. I will try to keep this as brief as possible.

He currently has AT&T DSL which is hard wired directly to one desktop station using a Motorola adsl modem model: 2210-02-1002, style MSTATEA.

He then has a Wireless N router which he generally connects to from a satellite desktop station using a wireless N PCI card.

Everything was working ok until several months ago when his old AT&T modem went out and he purchased the Motorola one listed above at Best Buy.

Now he is completely unable to stay connected to the internet from the satellite location. Evidently when attempting to connect to the home network it also now shows the home network name listed twice.

The hardwired desktop stays connected to the internet and does not suffer drops.

He currently has a D-Link Extreme wireless N Gaming router connected. His wireless PCI card is also D-link wireless N. We have also tried a TrendNet wireless N router and several other PCI cards with the same results.

The physical distance between the router and the satellite station is less than 70 feet and there does not to appear to be anything blocking or causing interference. It is basically a straight shot blocked by 1 wall without any steel structure.

First, does anyone know if the Motorola 2210-02-1002 modem is also a router? On the Motorola website it seems like it may be, but its hard to tell if the FAQ is referring to this modem or possibly a different model of one that may also be a router.

It appears that using a "bridge" could be an option if this model is a modem/router, however I am not very savvy when it comes to routers and I don't completely understand what that means.

According to the documentation I can find "enabling" the bridge will turn off the router portion of the modem, however I don't understand what the side effects of doing this are and it mentions authentication...I don't completely understand the result of removing it from the modem.

At this point I would almost just hire a tech to come out and do this but
1. Im not sure where to get the help.
2. AT&T doesnt seem to offer a wireless N router, only G and
3. Navigating support on AT&Ts site has been difficult.

Could someone point me in the right direction to figure out what the problem might be and how to correct it, or maybe where to find some sort of reliable technical support for this?

thank you!

Higher speeds possible?

I don't know if this has been asked before, but is it possible for att to offer higher speeds than what they offer right now through dsl? Something like for people that are close enough to the co to get higher speeds, or is the tech being used now at its limit for adsl?
