DSL Service Disconnects - 3 Techs No Solution HELP

I'm a long time Qwest DSL customer. A month ago or so I started having issues where the modem status would display as "connecting". I've opened several tickets and had three techs look at it, one said it was a problem at "distribution" box and after he left things worked ok for a couple of weeks then it started all over again. Second tech said it was corroded cables across the street, worked for a while then same thing. Last tech said it was a crimped wire at the box on side of my house, now its worse than ever. Can't get or keep a connection for long at all. Basically unusable.

How the heck can I get Qwest to resolve this? Any troubleshooting I can do to help them isolate, I've tried two different ActionTec modems with exactly same symptoms. Please help. Any tips on how to escalate to resolution?

Unable to view "HD" TV streams on 7MBPS

I just activated Qwest DSL 7MBPS service at my new home. I previously had Comcast 6 MBPS service which usually topped out at 4.5-5MBPS on speed tests. With that service I was able to watch HD TV episode streams from abc.com, hulu.com, etc. with virtually no problem. With my Qwest service I am getting 5.0-5.5 MBPS on speed tests (higher "raw" speed than my Comcast connection), but HD streams from the same sites are unwatchably choppy. I've noticed that ping latency is quite high, no less than 75 ms to virtually any site I've pinged, and average 100 ms. Is this the problem? I admit I don't recall doing many pings from my Comcast modem because I never really had problems, so I can't compare.

As I'm new to DSL, I'm reading about the 32 ms interleaving and wonder whether it's worth trying to get that turned off--has anyone seen improvement in video streatming with that fix? I can post my modem stats (SNR/attenuation) later after I get home from work if that is helpful.

Actiontec M1000 updated

Has anyone else seen this before? I logged into my Actiontec M1000 modem after I noticed my IP address changed to see if it had issues or if the modem just reset. The entire interface on my modem has changed. It says:

Firmware Version: QA02.5-3.60.3.0.8.6-M1000
I couldn't tell you what it was before but it's never changed in the almost two years I've had it. The modem has been rock solid and hasn't reset in something like nine months which was why the new IP address was surprising.

Does anyone know if Qwest is pushing updates? I'm not sure how I like getting software updates.

Is the old alarm system messing up Qwest DSL?

Hello, I've been experiencing nearly hourly disconnects--where the internet light on the modem goes out, and the DSL light starts blinking--and when that happens, my SNR margin downstream also hits the 2-billion mark, which I'm told is actually the firmware bugging out and incorrectly displaying a negative number.

Anyways, I'm at my wit's end trying to fix my connection. I've had Qwest for two years now without trouble, until two weeks ago. I'm wonder if the old security system in the house--from a previous owner--is to blame. It's been beeping sometimes, and all the orange lights are on. Should I cut the system, disconnect it, and do you think it'll help?

As an aside, I've tried most other solutions. Every phone line except for the modem is filtered. My connection--when it doesn't drop and retrain--is good.

Are my stats good?

SNR Margin (Downstream/Upstream): 31/12
Attenuation (Downstream/Upstream): 4/9
I have 20ms to my first hop, but in games like COD4 and MOH my pings are around 90 ms. I'm wondering what I can do to reduce my pings.

One more thing, are higher or lower values better for SNR Margin and Attenuation?

Thanks in advance :)

Is this info good or bad on my DSL line trace?

Ok here's the thing. I pay for QWEST's 1.5mbs service in Littleton, CO and I constantly get 0.6 to 0.75mbs download. I would not mind if I was getting slower speeds then advertised as I realize the complications inherent in the architecture but less then half of what I am paying for is unacceptable. I have just started to research all of the excellent info on this site and although not new to computers I am new to the intricacies of networks and broadband technology and terminology.

I am trying to educate myself along with calling QWEST tech support and asking them how far away from the hub I am and if they can switch me to another truck or gateway. So are those numbers bad or good? Any suggestions on how to further my education would be appreciated.Thank you in advance.

Verifying QWest DSL speed before signing up?

I'm using Comcast but am sick of the problems and bs. QWest claims that they can deliver 7mb DSL at my location...which is much faster than they previously stated.

Before I sign up I would like to get a tech out here and show me the connection speed. Anyone done that or have any suggestions on how to verify before I switch?

Stay with Actiontec M1000, or upgrade to Motorola 3347?

So we've got the 6Mbit package (5120/896 actual) in Elk River, MN, direct from Qwest. Using an Actiontec M1000, Firmware Version: QA02.5-3.60.3.0.8.6-M1000.

Behind that we have a Linksys WRT54GL as our switch. (It's not doing any routing or DHCP, the modem is doing all of that)

I have to power-cycle the modem every 24-48 hours to get our connection working again, after web pages just start stalling/timing out. (Takes multiple reload attempts to get individual pages to load) When it does time out, I can't reach the modem login page, let alone any info on the current status.

Some of it is torrents being run (Ubuntu, OpenOffice.org, and such) that seems to expedite the silent death.

Wondering if purchasing a Motorola 3347 for $100 would give us any performance improvement/not needing to power-cycle things to keep it running, or if it's something on Qwest's end that's giving us these headaches.

Any thoughts?
