Verizon's Dishonest Marketing: Cease and Desist

I just got this robo call on my answering machine -

This is Denise, Verizon manager for New York. There have been landline service issues in your area recently and we want to apologize if you have been inconvenienced. To better serve you we would like to transition your phone service to our fiber network. There is absolutely no charge to make this transition. You will keep the same voice service at the same rate you are paying now. One of our expert technicians will complete the work, and ensure that your services are working properly. Thank you for being a loyal customer and we look forward to continuing to serve you. Press 1 now or call us at 1-877-692-3485 today, so we can schedule an appointment convenient for you to transition you to our best most reliable network.

I never had a service outage, and Verizon damn well knows that to be the case.

I plan to keep my pots line.

I will be filing a complaint with the New York State Public Service Commission for obvious reasons.

[speed/latency] Downstream Issues - Need help

I switched to Verizon DSL back in November and have had slowly growing issues with the internet locking suddenly (requiring a modem reboot) as well as very bad download speeds. I've read a lot of forums and suggestions for similar issues.

So far, I've moved the modem so it is on a short dedicated line coming directly from the posts just within the house. I can see the line from the outside connecting there as well. I've made sure the power is directly in an outlet and not a surge strip. Lastly, I have an alarm system filter on order to come in later this week, though I've seen mixed reports on this, especially if the modem is on its own line close to the NID.

Anyway, my reported downstream connect, per my plan when I log into Verizon should be 3.1-7MB. I don't even hit the 3MB anymore. Here are the stats from my modem;

Modem-version: GT784WN-VZ-1.1.6
Speed (downstream/upstream): 2752/640
SNR Margin (downstream/upstream): 6/14
Attenuation (downstream/upstream): 63/31
Power (downstream/upstream): 18.9/11.9

From everything I've read, I know the downstream SNR and Attenuation are bad. I did a line test a short while back and saw a very high ping on the first hop as well and figured it was most likely related. Any help on next steps to help me resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Opt out of annoying fios upgradechange over phone calls

Hi, I was wondering if their is a way to opt or prevent them from calling every day about us upgrading to there FIOS network.

They have been calling every day for the past 2 weeks, and even yesterday the person on the phone was starting to get aggressive in their push to switch us over to fios.

Just today I got the annoying automated call about scheduling a time to switch over to fios with no change in cost. Also about repairs made to our service in the area.

We have had Verizon land line service since 2000 and verizon DSL since 2005.

The only service calls we ever made was back on 2005 when we had static on the line that took out our internet also. I also contacted support in 2012 and they mailed me a new Westell 7100 modem-router which replace the old westell 327w. It has been humming along just fine.

Current speeds 3360kbps down 672kbps up.

I am getting annoyed with these calls because we have no interest in changing a service that works and the most important thing to us is the reliability of the service. The fact they are constantly pushing and saying fixing our lines without our knoweldge and go over to fios is annoying.

When Sandy and Irene hit the most time we lost power was 72 hours.. The other storm knocked out our power for 24 hours. No generators and don't like temp battery back up.. Guess what we had.. Telephone service + gas heat. Sure this house was made in the mid 1930's and has no junction box but we want a trustworthy connection. Lastest != greatest all the time.

P.S. We have no cellphone either. We don't want to spend 100+ for television, phone, internet and aditional $60 for prepaid telephone for the family. We are old school. We have converter boxes and use rabbit ears for our TV.

[connectivity] incremental speeds

I'm retired and don't now too much about wireless but here goes. Dsl speeds have been changing from 2.91 down/.67up to 1.82 down/.72 up (in increments) over past couple weeks. Am using a Cisco x2000 modem on a dedicated line from the outside box. Neighbors closer to the end of the line are still getting almost 3.0 down. While my plan calls for 1.1 to 3.0 and I should be happy I'm not. Ping is usually under 100 where ever I test it and the connection seems solid.

[speed/latency] I'm really just getting tired of this shit.

Every day it's some new problem. The speeds are never stable. Tim_K does amazing work, and I'd like to thank him publicly for dealing with my shit, because he's been readily helpful every time. That doesn't mean he's a magic-man, though, and he can only do so much.

For a while I had issues with my 7mbit package and he moved me to a new router and it was fixed. Then I had an issue where I was getting at max 4 mbit down, he fixed it once again. Now, I'm having the same issue again, down to 3.5 mbit.

This shit happens every fucking couple months, or in this case, within a few weeks.

I'm just not even sure what I'm gonna do anymore. They need to run some damn fiber out here or something.

Edit: It's momentarily back up to full speed, but I fear how long it will last.

[connectivity] Need help with Verizon DSL & Windows XP

Hello All,

I am personally running Verizon FIOS without any problems. However, my father-in-law still has Verizon DSL, which he has been using without any problems for the last 4 years until now.

To make the long story short, it seems that the LAN card that came with his old Dell PC died. I pulled it, and installed a new LAN card, which supports 10/100 MBps and is RoHS complient. However, for some unknown still to us reason, he is getting the LAN "Limited Connection" error.

I have tried everything I could think of, and spent over 6 hours with 3 different Verizon DSL tech support folks. However, we cannot even get to 192.168.1.1 (which is the address of the Westell 6100). I have tried even slowing the LAN card to 10 Mbps / Half-Duplex (or Full). TCP/IPv4 is set to obtain IP / DNS automatically and etc...

We know fo sure that his Verizon DSL connection does work. Why? Because when I plugged in the same Ethernet cable into a laptop that I brought with me, we had an instant Internet connection (running Windows 7).

So it must be something within Windows XP that is blocking access. I am trying to do everything to not having for him to buy a new computer at this time and save the current system.

I have deleted any and all Network cards drivers in the Control Panel / System / Devices. I have NOT messed with any registry tricks, but am now willing.

Any and all help with suggestions is greately appreciated.
