[Connectivity] Modem crashes during Internet access in Alexandri

I regret that I am having to make this post on my phone while accessing the 3G network to even receive Internet functionality now going on 3 days. I would like to first explain that I am a Tier 1 manager for AT&T Uverse, so I do have somewhat of a brain =) I am very helpful and can help virtually anyone in the Uverse world, but as for my Insight I am bound to in this area because the NKY area is capitalized in some areas by one provider I need help!

I would love to post my specs, but as I have explained I cannot even access the Internet and even running a trace route will post numbers in the high hundreds. Basically the issue is this...the modem (RCA by Thomson) looks all fine and dandy until any device in the home, wired or wireless, accesses the Internet...that's when I watch the modem and see line, tel 1, and tel 2 go haywire. This issue started Monday of last week. Sunday of this past weekend is when I have noticed the lights go haywire and then the modem completely resets by dropping all the way to the power light on its own...consistently in 3 - 5 minute intervals. It's absurd. I have reformatted my 2 ps3's as we thought it was a particular game we play having issues. Though I have noticed now that it is now strictly a DNS issue. My fiancé is now having to travel to a library just to access the Internet for college on her blended days. We had contacted insight tech support yesterday after I had monitored the issue for three days, and honestly the support I received was less than par than other calls I have made and it's sad honestly. I know we need an initial tech visit to check connectors and the modem, maybe even the cabinet with the ports out in the neighborhood to ensure our port is still intact. Though the 12 minute hold or just muting of the phone was poor in my opinion and the probing questions the agent asked were very poor, not to mention the lack of care to the issue all the way to waiting for an entire week for a tech to come out during a 5 hour window. I work from home as well, but am forced to make a 45 minute trip to the office on a daily basis now until the issue is looked at and hopefully corrected =/

I have seen quite a few issues of this and glad to see I'm not the only one affected, not saying it's great that any of us are going through this at all though. I created a new thread as I didn't see anything recent to this issue or in this area within the last month. I am also posting this because I felt like as a customer I was treated as another whining number in their system. I'm not, I just want to be able to access what I pay for, which is 20 megs. I never really call tech support, but I had to draw the line on this issue. The make and model of the modem is an RCA by Thomson, model-DHG535-2. If anyone has any information or wants to help out further than the help that has been extended, it would be super appreciated! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post and answering it!

[CATV] SageTV and Insight

I've been using SageTV on my PC running a HVR-2250 for a DVR with Dish Network for years now. I was thinking about switching to Insight, as that's who I have internet service through. I don't understand much about things running 'in the clear' and all that. Will I have a problem switching to cable TV?

[Speed] Speed Issues Just North of Columbus Ohio

Hello,

For the past several weeks I have been having extremely slow download speeds. I have the 10Mbps package from Insight.

Here are the facts:

I live just North of Columbus Ohio.
When I goto SpeedTest.net to run a test I am lucky to get 1-2Mbps down. However my upload speed 100% of the time during these tests is just under 1Mbps. The ping to the Columbus server is well over 100ms.

Since I am not home during weekdays I am unsure if the problem exists at all times of the day. I do know that it starts at around 17:30 PM and lasts until at least midnight when I goto bed on weekdays.

This past weekend the tests showed the same issues throughout the day starting as early as the early afternoon.

No signal issues can be found by the tech.

A tech has came out to my house two times. The first time was before 17:30 on a weekday. He was not seeing any of the issues I stated above (lack of speed, dropped packets, high latency). He hooked up a pc he brought with him directly to the cable modem to bypass my network. No signal issues can be found by the tech. He did replaced the cable modem with a different one. Later that night the problem came back. I tested with my PC directly connected to the cable modem to confirm.

He came back the next evening at about 19:30. He saw the issue first hand just as I described above (lack of speed, dropped packets, high latency). He connected his PC directly to the cablemodem and saw the high pings and some dropped packets, as well as speed issues. So he went to the basement and put the cablemodem on its own direct link to the box outside. He also replaced ALL splitters (including at the main box outside) on the side of the house, and everyone of them leading to the modem itself. The problem is still here.

He said he has turned the issue over to Insight. I believe he works for a company (Precision Broadband) that is subcontracted by Insight. I guess they (Insight) are going to send a team of people out to check it out according to the tech.
Can anyone help me out on anything I can do from here? I’ve worked in IT for the past 10 years at a forutune 100 company and this has all of the hallmarks of an issue outside of my house based on the network troubleshooting I’ve done. And especially considering there is no signal issue.

[Speed] Speed issues/random resets/poor latency - Louisville, KY

I have had the same problem with my internet for about 6-8 months and quite frankly I would switch instantly if there were another option. Basically I INTERMITTENTLY have high latency in everything from ventrilo to pc games to just slow browsing. This is wierd but my modem will reset itself randomly but only when playing a game and no it's not just one it's all games. Trust me I have tried EVERYTHING on my end from plugging my modem directly in my computer to swapping out an old PC. I have had 4 or so techs come out and pretty much do and tell me the exact same thing every time. The cable modem has been swapped out and all the splitters replaced etc. etc. All drivers and Windows(7 x64) are up to date. Any insight to this very annoying problem would be appreciated. Thank you.
[Speed] At the end of my rope Lexington, KY

I've pretty much come to the end of my patience with my internet connection here in Lexington. I have had several service calls over the last few months to address ping and speed and nothing has helped. Signal level is good, router is not a problem, swapped out the modem to cover all the bases, etc. but I am still stuck with less than half of the speed I am paying for and poor latency... it seems as if "rolling a truck" is a last resort.

I have to wonder now if 12 meg DSL would actually be better for me at this point.
