[FireFox] Firefox 9.0.1 lock ups and memory problems?

Running FF 9.0.1 on 2 machines an XP and Win 7. Both have had problems with lockup.

Now, I'm looking at the memory usage on one particular site. http://jeelabs.org/tag/jeenode/

I have IE 9 and FF 9.0.1 connected to the same site. Below is what task manager is showing for each. You can see how much higher memory utilization is for FF. This happens in XP and Win 7

Any thoughts on this??

Firefox 8: Blank Page Favicon

Some people, including myself, do not like favicons and disable their use in about:config by setting browser.chrome.favicons to false.
Apparently, the Firefox developers, in their unique wisdom, decided to replace the "blank page" favicon in Firefox 8 with a "checkered square" favicon.

I prefer the old look. Does anyone know how to get it back?

[FireFox] NoScript [DEV BUILDs] Releases

[att=1]
The NoScript Firefox extension provides extra protection for Firefox, Seamonkey and other mozilla-based browsers: this free, open source add-on allows JavaScript, Java and Flash and other plugins to be executed only by trusted web sites of your choice (e.g. your online bank), and provides the most powerful Anti-XSS protection available in a browser.

If you're brave enough and you need a specific feature or fix not released yet,
or you simply want to provide feedback before official release,you may want try this ;)

How to totally remove blocked add ons in Firefox Portable?

How do you remove bad addons from Firefox?

Firefox kindly blocked the bad addons in question, but I'd like to do more that that. What I'd like to do is remove every trace of the bad addons. How can we do that?

It's in Firefox Portable 3.16, by the way.

As to what they are, one is a "Bing Search Bar". The other is an unwanted "Microsoft Search Helper".

===================================================

Never mind. I found the bad guys and erased them. The previous attempts to use "ADD & REMOVE Programs" in Windows didn't work, but erasing the items from the Programs folder has caused them to disappear from Firefox.

There may still be traces in the registry, but the windows files the nasties changed were caught by Windows File Protection. The original Windows files were repaired with the original XP install CD.

Guess that solves the problem. Leaving this unanswered post up in case someone else has the same problem the those two badies.

'Compatible by Default' and Add-ons Compatibility Reporter

Compatible by Default and the Add-ons Compatibility Reporter
by Brian King - 2-Feb-2012 - via Planet Mozilla
quote:Firefox 10 is out and add-ons are now Compatible By Default.

As reports are coming in that some add-ons are not working, I wanted to write a quick note on how this feature plays alongside the Add-on Compatibility Reporter (ACR) extension.

In short, the ACR settings that make add-ons compatible are themsleves not compatible with Compatible By Default in Firefox. So these settings have been disabled in ACR, and the extension acts now only as a reporting tool. To put it another way, ACR no longer makes old add-ons work, deferring completely this task to Firefox.... read full blog post for more details.
