$30 on top of $30 a month extra already and 5gb cap? ill take 2!
I guess if you already have the iphone and have a need for it, it would be cheaper than getting a data card/plan by itself. |

| Well, this is kinda useless
So, remind me again why people shouldn't hack their iphones to use netshare? If I owned a company, I would make the tethering plan you have to purchase so appealing that people would pour in and purchase it instead of hacking their phones and installing 3rd party software to get around the system. But, then again, I am also not a greedy [insert explicative here] who is stupid. People ARE going to use netshare and other 3rd party tethering methods that the provider can't track, so why not cash in on and make the tethering plans cheaper? |

Not enough 3G higher speed coverage areas. Plus the "Signal sucks inside buildings" issue. Yes I'll waste $30 bucks. NOT. |

No kidding. Is there no end what these suckers will pay to play with their expensive toy? Must be nice to be made of money.
Currently tethering a 'normal' 3G smartphone with no extra charges beyond the $15 no-limits data plan using unmodified AT&T-provided equipment. No muss, no fuss, no insanity. |

Try PDAnet app for the phone, and iphone as a modem helper program for the xp/vista side, works great. |

You could do this via native BB software 5 years ago. Now you can do it via the Bold 3g on ATT. Go ahead and pay your almost 70 dollars a month for it, sheeple. |

The iPhone is a cash cow for AT&T so they are trying to milk it for all its worth and at the same time bilk the customers who are caught up in the iPhone craze. |

I'm on the fence about a smartphone. I fiddled around with a BB and I really don't get it. It's cute, it's got a real keyboard, the rest, eh.
Whatever I get, I do need tethering. Paying $30 vs. $80 or so for a data-only plan is a no-brainer. |

Yes, but that "tethering" is blatantly against the TOS. It's clearly stated that tethering/modems are not allowed with ANY of the MEdiaNet plans, or even the PDA plans for that matter. Only the plans that explicitly mention tethering actually allow it. And btw, it's pretty easy for AT&T to catch you tethering. They just have to check the user agent strings and ports on any given connection. Also, if you use over 1 or 2 gigs on a Medianet plan meant for a crummy phone with a WAP browser, you sure as hell will be flagged down on the billing system. This is standard with pretty much any provider. On CDMA carriers, it's even easier to catch, unless you hack your phone and disable NAI. So IMHO right now, AT&T is taking advantage of the stalemate that exists in the market right now. Per se, Verizon's tethering is $60, as mentioned. Sprint is also 60 if you want to be able to get Rev. A speeds (few phones actually have Rev A), or want to make/recieve calls while online. And AT&T's DataConnect plans are $60 (tethering/datacard). All have a 5 gig limit. Not a very competitive market, innit? (NOTE: I'm just comparing the LEGAL ways to tether. If you want to tether on the phone-only plans, by all means, be my guest. But as ninjaturtle said, don't complain if you get caught and your account gets terminated.
