1 DVD's worth of data per day ...

That's all you get at the higher speed.

Any more than that, and you may decide you don't need to buy their TV services from them...

1 NetFlix movie is 2.68GB

1 NetFlix movie is 2.68GB (assuming 3.2Mb/sec, 2 hour movie).

An anonymous poster says throttling; another says no

2 anonymous posters say they see throttling and have confirmed it. But no proof is given other than 1 section of boilerplate TOS that says they can if they want to.

Another poster says he has never seen any such occurrence and posts a chart backing his claim:
»Re: WaveBroadband Torrent Throttling??!!!

and

»Re: WaveBroadband Torrent Throttling??!!!

and

»Re: WaveBroadband Torrent Throttling??!!!

This poster claims that cust svc says they are only throttling bittorrent.

Do not have this company. i am actually low on usage lately. Thing is I downloaded windows 7 beta that would have put me over the limit for them even if only a once a month thing. mmmmm
Hope my dsl provider does not try this. I may max out for a week then go deed for weeks. Under a monthly limit but by the day. ugh. Download half a thing today next part tomorrow.

The end of the internet

as I said before this is the end of the internet as we know it and one more reason I am leaving the USA. Hell at least in China we don't get capped or throttled we might have problems in other areas but at least we get "Unlimited Usage" and none of this cap bullshit

Unlimited at 1.5 megabits/second, and with hefty ISP fees.

So glad.

.....that i no longer work for Wave Broadband. Good luck at getting any straight answers out of customer service, or tech support, those with skills dont stay with the company very long.

Not sure about Neltfliz but I know movies downloaded from Amazon, PSN, XBL or Itunes wouldn't exceed 2 GB if it was a 2 hour movie for 480p. 3 GB a day is 90 GB a month. kind of low in my opinion better than what TW and at&t have in mind. and at last instead of rediculous overage fees they jst throttle you down( which is smarter if you whole suppoed reqasoning for caps in the first place is preserving network capacity ).

You still get internet access at 1.5 Mbps if you exceed the cap. You post infers you wouldn't be able to use your connection once you exceeded 3 GB. you still can.

Let's se Bush is finally out of office and NOW you're leaving? Also to leave the US because SOME areas have caps is stupid. My area doesn't have caps. Sure at&t is testing caps. it may be 2 years before they have them and ther is also Charter in my area. No caps by them. Sure Comcast has caps, but really 250 GB is plenty for people right now.

And microsoft thinks streaming video is the way to go?

Quite often on Broadband Reports you hear of more and more ISP's restricting bandwidth. And companies like MS saying downloaded movies are the way to go, bluray will never catch on, its all about downloads.

ISP's over the last years seemed to focus so much on the speed of the connection, they ignored the throughput. You don't really need 10mbps to surf the web. Websurfing at 3mbps is pretty speedy. You need the speed for downloading large files. So they spent years developing the speed, only to have system that can't really support it, or have no need for it.

It just bums me out that ISP's do this. Whats the point of high internet speeds if you can use the bandwidth. Why does the goverment continute to put an emphasis on speed?

Re: The end of the internet

You should be looking at countries like Sweden, where 25mbit is minimum and some areas are able to get 1000mbit, uncapped internet for a fairly decent price. Now, why can't we do that here?

Re: And microsoft thinks streaming video is the way to go?

With more and more websites using higher bandwidth content like flash and videos, instead of just text and small images, 3mbps isn't as "speedy" as it was a few years ago. It seems like a lot of ISPs just started offering higher speeds without actually having the network to support all their users fully using those high speeds. Now that people are using them, they're having to cap since their network can't support it.

As for the government putting emphasis on speed, it's probably because many other countries surpass us in broadband speeds.

Re: half today next later

It would be cheaper to buy 5 or 6 seperate DSL lines and max each of their caps out than to get a T1.

And the default running speed is equal to that of this company's AFTER hitting the cap.

MS only says this because HD-DVD lost. They bet on the wrong horse. And actually if the XBOX 360 came with a HD-DVD drive HD-DVD would have beaten blu-ray.

Even without caps movie downloads are over a decade away from being the way to go. 20% of the country lives in areas where there isn't a broadband option. ( Sorry satellite and mobile doesn't count ). Even in areas with broadband, half the people only have connection of 3 Mbps or less. Hardly the speed required for downloading. As long as ISPs either do not serve or underserved most of the country downloading was going nowhere. Add caps to the equation and I'd be surprised if downloading is a serious contender in 2020.
