Only one comment, is the employee still employed by Belkin? If he is, their mea culpa is just window dressing. |

I am approached all the time by companies who attempt to bribe me for a positive review due to the position I hold within our company. The perks have started as low as a $100 Amazon gift card (ironic?) for a one-page positive review. I've never been asked to post fake testimonials on a retail website however.
Regardless, I've shunned all the offers unless I felt that the product was absolutely worthy of a glowing review ... which has happened exactly one time. |

| Obviously Michael Bayard was looking to achieve something
It could be a promotion or something along those lines, but I just don't know if Belkin was paying these people or if Michael Bayard was paying them out of his own pocket. Probably Bayard was paying them directly. I am not denying that companies have paid for good reviews on the internet. What I am saying is that I just don't believe that Belkin was responsible for it. This stinks of someone at Belkin who wanted a promotion or a raise in pay and it just makes sense that someone in business development was responsible for it. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

Well you know the quality when they must bribe people to rate positive... LOL. Red flag. Don't buy me from now on. |

Was Michael funding Operation Bogus Reviews out of petty cash or was Belkin actually cutting company checks? If the latter, then they do indeed endorse bribery.
quote: Belkin does not participate in, nor does it endorse, unethical practices like this. We know that people look to online user reviews for unbiased opinions from fellow users and instances like this challenge the implicit trust that is placed in this interaction. We regard our responsibility to our user community as sacred, and we are extremely sorry that this happened. We want to stress that this is an isolated incident.

That's the way I see it. The fact that they did not announce his firing from the company tells us this was a standard and sanctioned practice. |

Based on? Belkin did not say they fired him. There can only be one reason for retaining him. That what he was doing was standard practice and Belkin isn't going to make things worse by firing someone who would turn around and spill the beans. |

Gee, that explains why I threw all of the cheap units the previous Network Admin had purchased.
But really, is using money to sway reviews or popularity votes unusual? |
