| It's gettin' there
We watched a bunch of the first season of 30 Rock last night via Netflix on the TiVo and the HD mode kicked in. Not exactly 1080p but close enough. Even my wife was impressed and she's a very tough critic. -- Toolmaster of La Grange. |

They mention that the video can be dark from the 360. It is only dark if you don't have it set up properly. I've used five different Xbox 360 on 4 HD displays and the video is never dark. Why? Because I have it it setup correctly. |

I use my 360 for this service and it works pretty good. There are occasional problems getting it to pull an HD feed but nothing that we are watching really need the HD quality but it would be nice. I figure it will get better as they refine it. |

Yah, now that you mention it, I don't have any problems with dark playback on my 360 either. Other than the iffy HD stream, it works fine. |

Is there a setting that you have to do on the xbox to make it stream in HD? I get a great picture (especially for streaming of the net) but it's a far cry from HD. Maybe if the TV is too big it doesn't appear as HD? Anyone know? |

| The Roku
for me, is the deal at $99. I've been with netflix for five years, so it's a no brainer. I'm viewing on a 32" 720p LCD HDTV with a 10M DSL connection and it's fine. I've yet to hook it up using HDMI (damn TV only has one input), but with component cables it scales 720p pretty well.
There aren't enough HD titles I'm interested in to compel me to a higher quality device, or even an HDMI switch, at this point. I get full stream quality practically all the time. -- |

Where is Playon? With Playon I can stream netflix to my xbox (xbmc), xbox 360, ps3, d-link dsm-520 and any PC in the house running xbmc. |

What about on the PC?!? That is where they started, and now they're abandoning their PC users - probably the easiest part since they can control the software directly. Its a shame that my media center PC can run circles around all of these devices, but Netflix wants me to buy another device? |

I use Playon through my Directv HR22-100. I have it set to maximize preformance to give me the best picture. On my 37" Vizo 720P it looks great. My wife at first didn't believe me it was Netflix streaming.
I also like Playon goes to other sites like CBS which has a great picture. I just wish they would start streaming HD over the internet. I have 16MB and set via Ethernet cable so bandwidth isn't an issue. |

I think it all depends on your internet connection speed at the time. If it's fast enough (and the video is available in "HD"), it should simply popup a message saying "Presented in HD" and simply do so. |

It works great on TiVo.
It won't get much use from me, however because:

Works great, I use the Silverlight player in Firefox hooked to my 46" LCD and 1920x1080 mirrored output. Also use a Wiimote for the mouse instead of a regular bluetooth mouse, so I don't have to put it on any surface to navigate anything. So what's the issue with PC users? |

this is something I'm currently debating:
Roku or BD-2500/2550.
I like the idea of the higher quality of hte BD-2500/2550, but the Roku is the only device where you can force it to operate at a certain set bandwidth.
in addition, the BD-2500/2550 is currently considered to be one of the better machines out there, as it now supports all the HD audio codecs, has analog output, and is decently quick at loading Blu-Ray titles (compared to some others).
If Samsung were to promise a firmware update to set/fix the bitrate for NEtflix, it'd be a no brainer for me. -- "True Patriotism is more closely linked with dissent than it is to conformity and a blind desire for safety and security...I accept the definition of patriotism as that effort to resist abusive state power." -Ron Paul |

If I have to compare renting from a video store to streaming, and the current market tests are any indication. A LOT of people will go back to mail-order renting or video stores. Especially if you end up with a 20-25gb cap. A family of 3 each watching 2x 1 hr shows @ Standard Definition per day & 1 feature length movie a week will run out of bandwidth in just over a couple weeks.

HD on the 360 depends on your connection, period. I can get HD to work fine on the 360, and my receiver will mix the audio to fill the channels.
I am assuming they send two channel audio due to bandwidth limiatations? |
