Comments on news posted 2009-01-27 17:04:40: Roughly a dozen people have sent in this rather strange Chicago Tribune story about a Comcast cable visit that starts with an overweight Comcast technician accidentally snapping a utility pole (albeit a partially rotten one). ..

| Re: you break it... Comcast did do the right PR move by eating the cost, as they technically did 'break it'. Although, the pole would have eventually just come down on its own from wind load, being in such poor condition. Why should the Elec. Co. pay? They didn't cause the failure. Homeowners Ins. doesn't owe anything on this...it was a rotten pole with failure being inevitable due to lack of maintenance. | |

| Just one more One more example of how this state of mind the big corporations are in. It probally cost them more to argue about it than it would have been to just pony up and replaceit. Im sure the public utility commission for that area fined the utility company.
Congress needs to pass a law so that the consumer does not have to go though these hoops to get any thing done.

3 edits | Classic case of "Media Grapevine" I find it interesting that there is so much debate, and discussion about this guys weight. There is no actual indication, in the original article, that this guy was really over weight. The only reference is where the guy jokingly said "I guess I need to go on a diet." This is the kind of thing that I would have said, if I broke the pole, or fell through someones roof. I'm quite the skinny boy. But what do we have here? "Overweight Comcast Tech Breaks Utility Pole" as the BBR headline, without any real basis for such a claim. Journalism at it's best! Karl must have attended the CNN school of Journalist integrity.

| Re: Classis case of "Media Grapevine" I laugh, as well as cringe, every time I hear people come to the emotional rescue of someone who is in the "politically incorrect" crosshairs. Why don't we all sit around holding hands singing Kumbaya. That is the solution for everything. How far are we going to go with this convoluted concept of inclusion. Should we stop harrassing the child molesters too? I mean they're people too. Shouldn't we include EVERYONE?

Open Note to DSLR: It's because of "reporters" like Bode that so many of us techs and former techs have abandoned this site. We used to come here to offer a helping hand to customers when going thru official channels was not working, but to be consistently slammed by the official contributors to this site makes it akin to pushing a stone uphill with your nose - it just ain't worth the hassle.
Karl, have you ever heard of irony? I weigh about 140 lbs, and I would have said the same thing to the poor ol' widder woman, but in an ironic, self-deprecating way. Can you say that this isn't the case in the article you quoted? Since you cannot, then you may consider leaving BBR and getting yourself a job with the National Inquirer or Weekly World News. I think "Bat Boy" or "Boy Trapped in Refrigerator Eats Own Foot" may be more in your line. | |

| Re: Classis case of "Media Grapevine" Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that my comments weren't remedial enough for everyone. My point was that our retarded society has embraced the selfishness and greed created and perpetrated by the cockroaches we all have come to love and admire, also known as "lawyers". Instead of holding people to higher standards, like "common sense" , we just rely on the roaches to take care of us when something bad happens. We've sadly been brainwashed by the tree humping, grass munching liberals that we should include everyone in everything, ergo the Kumbaya song. It's time to thin the herd people!!! Why are we ignoring the fact that the fat ass tech was too lazy to check the pole before trying to climb it. I blame it on the mandatory diversity classes we all have to take. I don't know about you, but I tend to check most structures before climbing it, regardless of how "it looks to the eyeball". It's one simple extra step. Stop being a typical fat, lazy American. If I'm still going too fast, just raise your hand and I'll get to you Johnny boy. | |

| Re: Classis case of "Media Grapevine" Yea..... well, there was this carpet that oiled the strength, and without the inside the grapes were charming. The other wrong wasn't without pavement, as we rose to water the lights. "Kill 'em up" I said as grease rise to the challenge of them all. With for whom ever it was ate the water of love. I see it now! Coming without the light. As far as we think, it over the time of day. I need not have it yawn, as green is the flavor of all things to come. I wash you now untouched under the sun, without rain, far all to ponder!

| Did this story even need to be reported? This story is disappointing, but to the person who felt that it needed to be reported, that it was informative news, I can't believe what the rest of your personality must be like. To think that a weight story would tickle your tummy so much that you wanted to report it to the whole broadband community, I'm thinking that you have a disgusting personality.
This is just a disappointing story about weight; Nothing to rant about or even discus, other than the Technician's weight.
Justin, you should filter these stories BEFORE they are posted on the DSLreports.com home page. This story dulled down the excitement of my day a little. Thanks for that. -- "Hey, have you heard the song... 'Bomb Iran?' *bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, Ir...* n - never mind..." - John McCain
