·AT&T DSL Service
| From what I've seen AT&T and Insight have held up surprising well. The storm that blew through iced over every tree in the city. That caused a good portion of the trees to either have various limbs crack or just fall down. I was lucky myself the two trees out front didn't crack and come crashing down on my house like it did for a few of my neighbors.
On a side note my service with AT&T never wavered for me while my most of relatives are with Insight had service back up within the same day. |

| We need to burry these lines, then there wont be issues with wind storms or ice storms, ect taking out these lines. Its alot easyer to fix when they are dug up, as generaly it happens between spring-fall. not winter when most excivating will stop if the ground is frozen, thus no ice storms to take out the lines. |

 | Dang I live right outside of evansville but have Wide Open West. I'm really surprised mine didn't go down but I know three people at my work whos insight still doesn't work. |

Re: From what I've seen I agree, though additional work doesn't need to be done in my neighborhood, I'm less than a mile away from the local power station so all my lines are underground already. The next street over has their lines above ground though. |

Re: Dang what I don't understand is why even in new developments here in the ohio valley they don't lay lines underground. The only place they burried the lines was along a street where they removed the power poles for a streetscape project. |
|
 | Main reason is cost. It's incredibly more expensive to bury lines than to run them on a pole, even taking into account the *chance* of outages like this and the associated cost of the outage (versus the *certain* cost of burying them).
Also, things like tree roots, etc. can cause problems with underground lines, and outages can be more difficult (and time-consuming) to correct when they do happen.
Many power companies will gladly bury lines if someone (i.e. a city entity, neighborhood association, etc.) will cover the extra cost, but many are not willing or able to do that. |

| AT&T Did good...Insight not so much My wires were torn from my house. I called AT&T at 8:00 AM Monday and by noon my phone and DSL were restored.
Insight has not been as responsive. I called them Monday and after 30 minutes on hold I was told my cable TV will be restored "somtime". Then the REAL aggravation was they tried to sell me additional services when they can't even give a an estimate of when my cable will be restored. I was ok with them not knowing when they would get there, but the "upsell" thing REALLY aggravated me....... |

The only place they burried the lines was along a street where they removed the power poles for a streetscape project. Lots of places in Ohio do - my moms previous house and the house was 20 years old. The places that bury the lines are usually wealthier sections of towns where the added cost is not as noticeable as it would be in a typically blue collar section of towns.
In my area of Ohio all new developments have the lines buried but there are problems with it - especially water. It is also more expensive to fix buried lines - another reason why poorer sections of towns or states burying cable is generally not done - especially in the country. |

Re: From what I've seen said by OSUGoose:We need to burry these lines, then there wont be issues with wind storms or ice storms, ect taking out these lines. Are you referring to phone/cable or power lines? Power is not as practical to bury as phone/cable. For higher voltage distribution and especially transmission it gets prohibitvely expensive quickly. -- Tradition: Just because you've always done it that way doesn't mean it's not incredibly stupid. --despair.com |

fireflierCoffee. . .Need CoffeePremium join:2001-05-25 Limbo | Power's not all back though As of this morning's reports, KY still had about 120,000 state-wide that were without power.
If Insight is basing their "10% of modems offline in Louisville" on the fact that they can't talk to those modems, it may not be insight's infrastructure, it could be that those customers don't yet have power back. -- Tradition: Just because you've always done it that way doesn't mean it's not incredibly stupid. --despair.com |

tenpin784I Went To The Dark Side? join:2001-03-30 Calera, AL | We just went through that up here Back in December, when an Ice Storm tore through up here. I got called into work @ 12:30am, having to drive right in the middle of it. I have never seen a transformer blow before, but that night, I saw 3 or 4 of eerie glows of them blowing, it was the coolest thing, I thought.
We ran into the same problems, ice all over trees, taking out power lines and poles. Been a rough past year, with this major ice storm, and then the Tornado that ripped through....yes, a Tornado in New Hampshire. -- Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.

| Insight's Terrific Response I'm in New Albany and like everyone - had a rough night Monday 1/26/2009. We lost power around 3:00am and had it restored by 5:00am.
But the worst of it was a 200-pair (heavy) telco cable fell from our building to the ground taking the Insight cable drop with it - removing the Insight cable from the utility pole.
I called both Insight and ATT around 5:30am - Insight was here by 10:30am that morning and reattached their cable - ATT didn't repair their cable until Monday 2/2/2009 (and did a terrible job I'd add).
However, our voice and DSL circuits worked through-out and if it wasn't for the ATT cable falling and taking the Insight cable with it - I'm sure that Insight would have worked through all this as well.
I was very impressed with Insight's response to this. When I called Insight on Tuesday 1/27/2009 at 5:30am in the morning - the next scheduled appointment they had was on Saturday 1/31/2009.
So thank you Insight for the terrific service you provided during this. |

 | Would have been better, IF Insight had kept appointment. Last week, with the ice and all, I had a limb come down and drag my power line down, not disconnected, but way down too close to the ground, and along the way, it pulled my Insight cable all the way off. Since the power line was so much of a hazard, I waited until it had been put back up before calling Insight and telling them it was okay to come out and put my cable back up. That was the evening of the 30th, and I got an 'appointment' for the morning of the 6th. While not exactly happy that I'd be without tv and highspeed internet for a week (more), I was willing to live with it. I was told then, that since it was an outside job, they didn't need anyone at home at that time. I got home today (the 6th) after work [yes, like many I work during the day], and tada.... Nothing has been done. In fact, I call the automated line to check my 'appointment' and it's been set to the 14th?!??! This is after I had a message on my machine yesterday (5th, day before appointment) 'confirming' my appointment and saying that if I needed a reschedule or cancel to call back. Well, I didn't need a reschedule or cancel, so I didn't call back. But later yesterday evening, I get a strange call from Insight Communications (caller ID), I answer and there's no kind of response at all. It's like the line is dead. So, now I have no idea when they are going to get my line back up. It's probably a good thing they stopped doing the "we'll be there when scheduled or you'll get a $xx credit to your bill."
I understand that it's rough.... But, if you make an appointment, it should be kept, without any lame excuses like, well, you rescheduled, right? Which they did ask me if I had rescheduled.
This above all else makes me think about changing to another internet provider and tv provider. I've not had my phone line dragged down at all during my time at this house, and I've had my cable line dragged down 5 or 6 times now. |

 | still no cable, still no eta I called early tuesday after our lines went down. We have had power the whole time. We still can't get any eta for a technician to come out, and we're almost 2 weeks without service.
I wouldn't even be upset if after this long I could get an estimate (even if that estimate was "we'll be there in another week"). After this long, and after hearing from friends that their service is restored, AND after hearing from one who called for new service AFTER THE STORM and had is installed ina few days, I'm growing very frustrated with insight.
I have had insight's services for at least 6 years and have typically been satisfied with the custoemr service. But at this point, as painfull it is to switch providors (both cable and internet), I'm basically ready to do just that.
We don't have a land line any more, but ATT came out and put our phone line up already, and we never even called them.
I'm very dissatisfied with the custoemr service response on the phone, and I get the sense that I have fallen throught eh cracks. |

 | still no service, still no eta - getting the run-around My services is still out after almost 2 weeks and I can't get an eta. I called direct tv last night, and I dont want to switch, but I feel like I fell through the cracks here. |
