Adelphia said the same thing that it wouldn't affect customers but in the end the court can only do so much. |

| Fiber Customers?
As a fiber customer in wisconsin, Im now concerned that when Charter decides to file bankruptcy against the people they owe money too, that they wont up and decide to just cut their network connection from the major backbones of the internet.
I know this sounds major but if someone file bankruptcy against me and I had control of their network, I cut the fiber connections in a heart beat.
Why should the people who did work for Charter and not got paid be screwed? |

1 edit | Hmm, cash on hand?
quote: Company has $800 Million in Cash and Cash Equivalents
If they really do have $800 million in cash right now, I can now somewhat understand how they are affording to turn on SDV on my area's system in the coming days. Still, that cash will run out very fast if they want to keep up with the Joneses unless they find a way to reduce their costs substantially. |

| file already!
It's about time they got it over with. And of course this filing chooses the same path a lot of others have chosen to get out of the red. Remember MCI/Worldcomm? Virtually every airline?
Here in St. Louis Charter bought up a cable system that was originally built by contractors the city brought in. City ran it for several years, sold it to AT & T who mutilated it and sold it to Charter who bought a seriously crappy cable TV company. Service has greatly improved from those days but over the past few - ever since they outsourced tech support - service became very flaky and tech support became useless.
If they want to save the company this is a good step. Next they need to hire REAL tech support. We have plenty of laid off people who could do that job with our eyes closed right here in St. Louis. Come get us! Half the trouble calls they end up sending techs out for could be eliminated if you had tech support that was actually able to walk someone through a few simple steps.
In the end filing will help Charter reduce it's debt load. But will it help them create a better company? Or will they sell off to some creeps like Con...err Comcast?
The crystal ball does not tell me this. |

You cannot just cut the fiber if they file chapter 11. They are protected from retaliation from the debtors. More than likely the debtors are loans and bonds not the providers of the backbones. Most providers will not let someone go that far in arrears before disconnection. |

A year ago it was closer to 7 million. Wonder how much further it will fall with these new caps. |

| Goodbye Charter!!
Charter, you never gave me a chance to be a customer. You ran cables just short of me and all of my neighbors. To get that far, you had to run cable past empty fields. Then you STOPPED....servicing nobody!
I sure hope the next guys who buy your local network understand the concept of SELLING service to pay for build-outs, instead of useless build-outs to ZERO customers.

| An example for all businesses
This is an example of what bad management at the top can cause. They were one of the last cable companies to start upgrading their network. But hey, they got their profit for those quarters. Trying to squeeze every penny out of the old network before they were forced to upgrade. At least AT&T has wireless to offset their slowrolling.
I think Suddenlink isn't too far behind Charter. |

@rr.com | Let them go!
I hope they go out of business since they couldn't run their operation efficently. Don't want to see the federal government bail them out along with the banks, car companies and mortgage brokers. |

| More consolidation on the way
Guess that means someone else will have to buy those customers, and try to service them better?? Giving us 1 less choice, and reducing competition.
Oh, and since no one else said anything about it, guess I'll bring it up. In the headline it says "Will reduce $23 billion in debt down to $8 billion" and the article states: "reducing the company's $23 billion debt load by around $8 billion."

and as far as competation goes it wont efect it one bit since most areas only have one cable company and if lets say comcast buys out all of charter there not any area where comcast and charter competes head to head so practicly no effect there |
