Slap one of those puppies in my yard, I would love to have something besides wireless. Quit making excuses, move forward and ask for forgiveness later haha. Just kidding, if that was the case some people would have a hole through the middle of their house.

1) High speed Internet 2) "cute" yards.
The right of way is the for use of the utility be it crapble, telco, gas, eletric, water, sewer

I'm pretty sure they would prefer to have something other than a monopoly broadband provider that has decided on a half-ass solution to advanced broadband that saves the company money and results in refrigerator-size boxes on their front lawns.
Is ATT's VDSL better than dial-up? you betcha. Do the customers that have no other choice have to like the way it's implemented? absolutely not. |

said by rockhounds_5 :I'm assuming that these people would prefer to go back to dialup or dsl? False dichotomy. The choices are not limited to
1) Slow connections
2) Large lump of equipment placed with no concern as to appearance
There is another possibility:
3) Large piece of equipment sited in such a way as to reduce its unsightliness |

My Home Value is Dropping by thousands and it has nothing to do with VRADs. It's called the economy is in the crapper. |

Outrageous that these people would want some say over box placement in their own communities. |

I can hear it 24 hours a day," Walton said. "It's only six feet from my house."
Looking at a box is one thing, said Alderman Ann Rainey, 8th Ward.
"I don't think you should have to hear the box," she said.

It seems that at&t could do something similar if they worked with the communities instead of acting like the deathstar. |

[/irate] If AT&T had chosen fiber-to-the-home, they wouldn't have to had to deploy those huge boxes everywhere. They could have used the sunken boxes like my local telco did (that IS running FTTH). After a few months, the grass will almost cover the lid and you can't tell anything is there.
There is no telling how much they spent on those huge boxes. Prolly cost as much as running FTTH after you pay the labor costs of pouring a pad, clearing the ground, etc. |

Do these people not want competition? If I lived in area with no fiber I wouldn't care if AT&T had to put up a VRAD in my lawn. Then again, I'm not some anal bitchy housewife that lives on Wisteria Lane......
And of course, if they have underground utilities, these same people would throw a hissy fit when Verizon came around to dig up their lawns and put in fiber and junction boxes.... |

VDSL is NOT where we want to be in 2009. We need fiber to the home or at the very least HFC with smaller nodes. |

They make the same sound as transformer boxes. It's a slight hum. This guy must have either A. a poorly insulated house or B. a dead silent house to hear it. |

Nice observation. Unless you are some 13-year old kid that does nothing but stay home and be sad because the internet isn't fast enough, there is absolutely no reason anybody should justify having one of these monstrosities in anyone's yard. |

2 edits | Well, like the HOA CC&R's (if any) that you agreed to, you also agreed to give utilies the rights to install these things via utility easements.
Next time read before you sign if you don't want these "monstrosities" in your yard.
Before we bought our home, we made our attorney go through it with a fine tooth comb to ensure that we knew exactly what we were buying. Dealing with the town, utility companies and neighbors (we have no HOA) had been MUCH easier as a result. |
