| | The story is wrong The man did NOT shoot his tv because of a converter box. Webb City police only said the man was upset because his cable was shut off. Nowhere did the phrase "converter box" or "dtv" ever come out of the police chief. Here are stories from stations that actually covered the standoff. You'll see no mention of dtv or converter boxes in these stories, either.

| Um heading should be "Shoots TV over bad Cable Service" Quote: Turns out the 70-year-old gunman was livid over losing cable and could not get his digital converter box to work.

| | Since When..... This is a bit off topic, but since when it is illegal to discharge a firearm in one's own home (assuming the shooter is not renting)? If a guy wants to shoot his own TV in his own home, I see no problem with it as long as no bystander or neighbor is injured in the process.
I suppose since he had a stand-off with the cops that he may have been a bit unstable. Perhaps he also threatened his wife? There has to be more to it than him simply getting mad at his TV.

If you don't already understand why, I'm not sure you ever will.
But I'll give it one try:
By your logic, if I'm living next door, and a few rounds come whizzing by my head as I'm cooking dinner or whatever, it's 'no harm, no foul'. There would only be a problem if one of the rounds actually struck me.
Does that clear the picture any for you, or do you still not understand?

So, if someone lives 5 miles from the closest neighbor, do you still think an arrest is in order if a guy shoots his own TV in his own home?
You know: If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it.....

But that bears little resemblance to what you posted earlier.

Any responsible gun owner knows you only fire your gun when you're at the range or trying to kill something that you want to eat or that is going to cause you harm. That idiot can have his guns back when he eats his tv.

| | PC gets a break In recent news, PC was relieved to have the anger spotlight temporarily shifted off him and onto his old cousin, TV, when a man shot TV due to a DTV malfunction. Reportedly, the TV had no Microsoft products installed on it, but that is still under investigation according to authorities. | |
