I still have my copy and still play it once in awhile for kicks.
I've been in the beta and it kinda sucks i think, i have my CD copy modded for better gfx and custom maps. The NV15 map is still the best map i think.
But it is fun to play when at work when it takes less than 5mins download and play w/o having to take my CD in and installing it. -- »twitter.com/powerspec | »netisinc.com | »kcmogaming.net/speedtest/ |

Nothing new there, but yes, it is a rather invasive EULA...
Maybe they've improved, but there are probably still cheaters out there who can/do mess with people's games.
I have zero problem with people wanting to cheat/hack/whatever as long as they do it on their own server(s) / room(s) that don't interfere with the 'casual' gamer who just wants to play clean.
Software like this only makes those people even more upset - the idea behind it is neat; to make sure you don't get screwed by a cheater, but in reality, it really is just a very invasive piece of software that serves only to upset the people looking to cheat, and annoys everyone else. |

| I've been using it for a while...
...and while I'm very impressed with the very low-latency, fast etc Flash execution I'm not particularly impressed by the game itself - is this the same one (Quake 3) I used to love to play in 1999...? It's probably just me but 10 years later it's just downright plain fuckin' dumb by today's FPS standards, even if you forget all the (boring) tactical shooters and only include the usual suspects (UT2k4, UT3, CoD/CoD:WaW, ET:QW etc.) -- [BQUOTE=[user=bicker]]Waaaa waaaa waaaa. Haven't heard any misuse by PB yet. Exactly. Punkbuster is a buggy piece of crap and VERY ANNOYING many times - well, depending on the implementation, as America's Army is a rather shitty, slow@ss one while I never had problems with PB in ETQW - but this is the price you pay to make sure no one's cheating (thus killing the game.) -- [BQUOTE=[user=bicker]]Waaaa waaaa waaaa. id was ALWAYS a bunch of arrogant @sses in the South, no matter how nicely they tried to sell themselves - id and Carmack are one of the biggest hacks of the gaming business, I think. He might be a good coder but his games SUCKED, big time - I never seen anything more overhyped and then disappoiting, outdated game than Doom 3 at its release... unbalanced game engine (ooohhhh, lighs and shadows - boohoo), nonexistent, 90s-style scripted AI, stupid little dungeon-like maps due to its enormously tasking crappy (low-poly w/ high-rez textures and only nice lights) engine...
...who likes pontyheads, right?
Doom 3 tanked in reviews but unfortunately their disgusting marketing still sold a lot of this crap - however people took notice how shitty their game was and the biggest problem was that devs took notice too: they saw the engine sucked and went for another one.
The problem is that their games were rather tech demos for their engines - they don't fuckin' know how to make games anymore, it's quite obvious but now their engines suck too. Literally EVERY new game uses Unreal Engine v3, id was COMPLETELY OWNED by Epic, BIG TIME.
Sour grapes: Carmack startedtalking about "mobile games" which was meant to be a stupid, lame attempt to sell his wife's completely useless company (it's a money pit so far with no return in sight whatsoever, just like Carmack's failed space rocket business.)
Now this Flash-based rehashing of the old Quake 3 is something that's interesting - but it's still just a Q3, no matter how cool the execution is... -- [BQUOTE=[user=bicker]]Waaaa waaaa waaaa. | I found unreal tournament to be a much more interesting game at the time. I do think you're right that they've miraculously managed to avoid innovation at nearly every turn since the early Doom games...
This would be a far more interesting premise if the game was really a classic (Tribes I find more compelling)... |

Oh, and his games suck? Quake was only one of the BEST games of all time I don't think so. Doom was much better. Once ID tried to get into accelerated 3D, their games have not been up to par. |

I had gotten invited to beta test this. I created an account but never took it any further. I am interested in it though, I think I'll give it a try.
It's definetely an interesting idea if they can make it work as streamlined as playing the game off a disk. -- And if you go, furious angels will bring you back to me. |

Punkbuster is needed because these days every lame azzhat hacks and uses aimbots. (Sure, I really did hit you in the head with the pistol from across the map while you were flying thru the air doing a somersault and despite the walls in between us)
:/
Still, people hack, but PB does help. -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini
