| For an outage, it was timed pretty well
I was under the impression the outage was during the middle of the night and into the very early morning.
I remember having some issues but assumed it was localized to the Cox / Cox Phoenix shutdown routing and the huge mess that caused down where I live.
Jeez, first the BGP routing issue which nearly takes down the net, Conficker, and now Google having outages... Tis been a weird week. -- "Some people never see the light till it shines thru bullet holes." -Bruce Cockburn

These days it seems half the people on the net treat blogs the same way they treat news---- as ABSOLUTE TRUTH AND FACT... *****IF***** it agrees with their pre-existing ideology, that is. If not, well, it's just complete garbage like the rest of the news they don't like. -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

I don't think it's a big deal. It happens with any free or paid service eventually. Anyone who is really relying on GMail 24x7x365 for things so important that a 4 hour outage is a serious concern should really be examining the logic of relying on any one particular service so much. Keep a local store of your e-mail & contacts and have access to another mail provider for emergencies. |

The problem with that thought is that Google offers this as a fee based subscription service as well for business, government, and educational institutions. And they offer a SLA behind the service.
You are right though that for basic gmail this was not a big deal and every email provider has hiccups, but a 4 hour outage for a paid service is a pretty big one. |

I could not have said it better myself. This FACT should be taught in schools across America as part of a twenty-first century approach to journalism.
I laugh when Democrats say Obama isn't for "big government." I also laugh when Neoconservative Republicans tell me they give a crap about my constitutional rights and fiscal conservatism!
