Switching

I'm switching to Comcast next Friday. ATT/Bellsouth has provided the same max 3mb DSL in my area with the only possibility of upgrade when U-Verse makes it's way in the next two years.

Over a two year time, same price... twice the DL, three times the upload bandwidth.

At a rate of 700:1

2,100,000 will apply for AT&T's janitorial department... a very important job at AT&T since they are full of it.

maybe you would get paid better if you didn't sit on the internet all day instead of doing your job.

Re: Switching

don't count U-Verse being there in 2 years. They've been working on it here in Toledo since they announced the shitty service was coming out to the public. They just NOW started selling it. After 3+ years.

Re: Switching

I think I heard somewhere that they are slowing down in deployment and focusing on marketing to those areas that have it. I've been waiting for it for a while now. They called it project lightspeed. I think this is a little less than lightspeed. LOL

lol. very true. yah they've been saying that. It was a story on here as far as slowing down but ATT really hasnt said anything officially as far as i can find. But their service here is much more than what you'd pay with cable. U-Verse doesn't have a very high take rate compared to what cable is in many areas. Especially if you don't want digital cable and only pay $50 per month for your 75 channels (like me) and just pay for Internet of 12/1 and pay a total of $120 per month. (internet is 69.99 per month). ATT wants $69 for ~200 channels. Many of their "channels are account questions and help channels--they also count music as being a TV channel. then add the now $7 PER BOX after your first one. and then add at base rate $25 for 1.5/1meg internet. To get anywhere close to what I have now just to watch the same TV channels id be paying up words $140 per month before taxes just in TV and Internet.

That's just to get Discovery Health and some other channels Buckeye Cable puts on analog cable.

Re: Switching

U-verse TV is not a good choice for people who are happy just splitting some analog channels directly to their TVs, especially if there's several TVs.

The U-verse price includes a 4 tuner DVR, and $7 per month for additional TVs that an acccess the DVR. When you get into multiple DVRs many cable companies really stick it to you in fees. Time Warner here charges quite a bit for even the first DVR and over $20 per month for a second one.

You can also get good deals out of AT&T if you work at it. I was paying $99 per month for 6 months for Max 10/1 internet plus U300, after getting a $200 rebate check. So for my first 6 months that worked out to $66 per month for nearly the best service they had to offer, with no commitment. To get the deal all I did was politely ask if there was anyting they could do to lower the bill, and they came back with $50 per month in discounts.

Its prety crappy for fiber deployment
What a waste of our tax dollar
What a waste of your money
What a waste of technology that could have used to give you 100mbps! instead deliver only a fraction of it

Re: Don't do business with ATT

That probably depends on service in your local area.

I've used practically all the carriers here in SoCal.

- T-Mobile - VERY good GSM service, coverage could be better
- Sprint - Good CDMA coverage, poor CS
- Nextel iDEN - Reliable as a brick... works like it as well
- VZW - I haven't used in years due to billing issues. Great reliability, and works well if you like a walled garden
- AT&T - great coverage on GSM, very reliable. 3G network was not reliable until last Xmas (no 3G 850... not enough capacity deployed).

Re: Switching

For me, its bottom line, and Uverse (+ Call Vantage in your case) pretty much matches what I pay to TWC:

Your effective $66/month + $25 for CV
Is about the same as my $89 for TV/HSI/VoIP ($99 with taxes).

Project Lightspeed was the project several years ago to place RT's to provide DSL service, I believe around the early 2000's. Lightspeed has nothing to do with U-Verse, don't even use the same technology to provide the service.

jade, please explain why it is a waste of our tax dollar, I believe that it was AT&T's funds that deployed both Lightspeed and U-Verse. How can it be a waste of your money if you don't order the service?

My bad, Lightspeed was used with respect to U-Verse at one time.
