| without adequate competition? hell no! I will go as far as to say that comcast is a predatory ISP with their aggregate data cap and they have many markets upon which there is little to NO COMPETITION! Why would the FCC allow them to become bigger if another ISP can't offer 20-50mbit unlimited internet access for a competitve price? There needs to be a viable competitor in a majority of Comcast's markets before they get a single benefit from government intervention... regulatory, or financial. As it is they are skating on thin ice with their customers--many of whom are captive for phone & broadband. AT&T and QWEST are NOT adequate competition. So, unless there is a viable alternative who is able to provide a resonable competitive force.. we say no to greed at the expense of the customer.
Even if we have to open up tier-1 provider's fiber lines to provide POP's for direct resale as a solution... Comcast or AT&T or Qwest should NOT have a free ride. They need to take investments in infrastructure upgrades & competition seriously or someone else should benefit (tier-1 alternatives, along with the consumer). |
