1 edit | it says Local phone service. does not say what package you need.
Which means you could get a metered phone service. Which their site is interesting. they claim to service an area in Ohio that is serviced by Fairpoint.
You can get their Winstream DSL with any phone package. Basic plan starts at $5. |

1 edit | i never said anything about "bundling" i said order each seperate.
It allowed me to place an order for $5 per month phone service and the 12megs internet. It didn't say anything about having to bundle anything. You keep looking at the bundles. Not everyone bundles.
I just called Windstream they said you do NOT have to have any bundled plan. The simple basic phone line would be fine. It ranges from $5-12.10 depending on the region. Ohio its $12.10 for the basic line- no features or long distance plans. and then the price of the Internet. Then the taxes.
Before taxes and fees for the 12meg in Ohio is only $43 (change rounded up.) |

3 edits | Going by what is seen on the website itself: »www.windstream.com/residential/voice.aspx
They only show two phone services. Granted, they may have more services to offer. Also, again going by the webpage, $34.99 is the local phone service. When bundled with the 3mbps internet, the price drops to about $30 for phone and $29.99 for internet to end at $59.99.
Even if it is as you say, not that impressive as your first post above states. Sorry!
One other thing... this is DSL, right? What speeds can people honestly expect? As with any DSL service, ya might not be within range for the higher speeds... -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

I had to deal with windstream for 2 years and I can guarantee that their service is reflected in their prices. They are not a competitor to any cable company and they only make them look better. I have had far fewer problem with my cable provider than with windstream and every problem I have is followed by a credit to me account. With windstream all my problem were followed by nothing but a "I know how you feel sir." I just wonder how many of those 1 million will be leaving in a few months if they have an alternative provider available. |

of course they want you to spend more money than what you want. that's every business. LoL. I always place an "order" to find out what is required total. I did with them and found out basic phone service was fine. Got curious even more when you posted the bundles so i called. I not only got someone right away, but he also knew what he was talking about and was more than willing to give me the information i wanted. |

| What impresses me about Windstream is ....
... They are deploying DSL to rural areas. And when I say rural areas I don't just mean "Small towns out in the country" but also the area AROUND those towns that have no chance in at&t and other service areas.
Someone I know who is almost an hour outside the city just got DSL for the first time. They are quite a distance from the DSLAM so their speeds from Windstream appear to be 384/384 as far as my tests can tell but considering the best they could get before was dial-up that synced usually at 26.4 kbps it's friggin' amazing.
Not the fastest at that distance--- but the pings are steady and definitely game capable for the first time in that home's existence! Too bad won't be any streaming HD at those speeds however :/
Still I'm impressed by Windstream at this point. -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

you're right, you cannot look for services. Zip code specific areas have different prices. Why would you even comment when it would NEVER affect you? |

All i did was just click a state and city to get the info on placing an order. They don't require anything else until you go to fully run the order. |

they may put out RTs if the demand is there. With Windstream doing what it's doing I could see them easily taking over parts of Charter and running it the way CinciBell is doing with an old Muni-cable provider. Take it and easy way into the TV business in many areas. That would be a TRUE Broadband company. |

| Customer service = crap
I'm very surprised they are growing. Their customer service is terrible! I tried switching to them last Summer and had nothing but trouble.
First they missed 2 install appointments, then when they did finally install it the connection kept dropping. I ended up finding out they had qualified me for 12Mbps service even though I'm too far out. Called to get downgraded to the next lowest tier and guess what... they missed that appointment as well. Oh, and more than half the time when I called I got their call center in India!
The entire experience was absolutely dumbfounding. I mean here I am trying to become a NEW customer and they just can't get it right. After a week on/off the phone with these bozos I canceled service with them and decided to keep RoadRunner. -- In relative terms life is shorter than the blink of an eye. | reply to vfgrgrfrgr they do not based prices on zipcode. I could easily pick out the cities in my state that they service and get pricing. I can even call them--which i did.
And how do you know I won't be moving to one of their areas? Never affect me? you don't know that. |

| Insight to Windstream DSL
When I was in college, I had Insight cable. Let me say, they are by far the best cable company that I have ever had. Their cable speeds are blazing fast. Insight has a 20mb package over Windstream's 12mb one. They also had top notch tech support. If you want a quality ISP, go with them.
After college, I moved to a house without cable ran to it. I ended up going with DSL. Windstream has horrible tech support. Also, I'm stuck with the 3mb package even though I live 8 miles away from Lexington right of Nicholasville road. They haven't upgraded it in the 2 years that I have paid for their services. I wish they would spend more money on upgrading their equipment and infrastructure. |
|
  please upgrade
@windstream.net
| It would be nice if Windstream would upgrade their dsl service. Windstream needs to make 6 meg and 12 meg dsl available to more of their current customers limited to 3 meg dsl. I wonder how many of those one million dsl customers can really get any speed faster than 3 meg? |
