| Google & EU news distributors reach a deal
»tech.yahoo.com/news/afp/20090317···etgoogle
Internet search giant Google announced Tuesday it had reached agreement to host news stories and photos from eight members of the European Press Agency (EPA) on Google News and display ads alongside them.
The eight EPA members party to the agreement with Google are Belgium's Belga, Spain's EFE, Portugal's Lusa, Switzerland's Keystone, Austria's APA, Poland's PAP, Hungary's MTI and ANA of Greece.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Google in 2007 signed partnership agreements with Agence France-Presse (AFP), the Associated Press (AP), Britain's Press Association (PA) and the Canadian Press to feature their content on hosted pages of Google News. This allows Google to continue expanding their dominance of providing news search on line around the world. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page |

| No new cellphone taxes bill introduced in Congress
»tech.yahoo.com/news/zd/20090317/tc_zd/238207
Two members of Congress on Tuesday re-introduced a bill that would prevent states and local jurisdictions from imposing new taxes on cell phone service.
"By curtailing further increases on wireless taxes and fees, we hope to encourage additional consumer driven development in wireless technology," Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a California Democrat and the bill's sponsor, said in a statement.
"During the economic strain of a recession, raising taxes on hard-working American families is the last thing that will bring stability and growth back to our economy," said Rep. Trent Franks, an Arizona Republican and co-sponsor of the bill. Google & EU news distributors reach a deal The bill would ban local authorities from imposing new mobile taxes for a five-year period. It would not apply, however, to federal and state universal service or E-911 taxes.
Lofgren introduced the same bill last year, but it did not see any movement. I hope this time it moves forward in the Congress. Last time it went nowhere. The states do not want to see this bill go forward - it prevents them from leaching ever more taxes from the public. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page |

| Final IE8 and new Silverlight from MS tomorrow
»news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10198···1_3-0-20
The expected release of Internet Explorer 8 is likely to be the biggest headline out of Microsoft's Mix conference this week, though the company is likely to spend at least as much time talking about Silverlight 3, the next version of its would-be rival to Adobe's Flash.
Microsoft has already released a near-final release candidate version of IE 8 and is widely expected to declare the browser done as it prepares to address a crowd of Web developers in Las Vegas starting on Wednesday. I have been using the release candidate for IE8 for sometime now and it is better and faster than IE7. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page |

| The Kindle Sucks
Discovery claims a patent for this stuff? Really? Why aren't they suing other companies?
Kindle's biggest problem is the DRM factor and the outright lie you can read in the sun. You can't read it in the sun.
Newspapers promote the POS since they are moving to it.
When they get full color and smaller and 5 days of battery life, it might be worth it. Amazon should tell Discovery Channel to shove it. |

| Banned in Australia
Wouldn't DSL Reports now be banned in Australia since this site now contains a hyperlink pointing to a site containing a hyperlink to a banned site?
I also notice that just about anyone can cause just about any site to become banned in Australia simply by posting a hyperlink to a banned site and then rubbing the government's nose in it.
At this rate I suppose that the vast majority of the Internet will soon be banned in Australia. -- HCN: Because you deserve a rest!

It's worse than that. Say there's a forum run in Australia with a disgruntled forum member. (In any forum there's bound to be a few disgruntled members.) The disgruntled member decides to "get even" with the site administrators for perceived injustices so he links to one of the banned sites (making it seem as innocuous as possible). Then he reports the site/link to the government. Bam! Webmaster gets hit with a $11,000 per day fine and might have to shut down the forum. Disgruntled member chuckles maliciously at the webmaster's financial woes. -- -Jason Levine Support a children's charity. Buy a calendar and/or a photo book. Shooting For A Cause |

Well it's strange. The Aussies are pretty passionate about their lifestyle and freedoms--- yet they tend to always want to do the "right" thing. Problem is, power corrupts. The more power the Government has to do things "RIGHT" without checks and balances seems to quickly lead to them doing things "wrong.". It's like people aren't happy unless they are using wielding their power. Just sitting on it doesn't seem to work.
This problem seems to be worldwide.... -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini
