Seems these $140+ 50Mb tiers (from Cox, VZ, Comcast etc) are more marketing than anything else, meaning it's so they can claim offering speeds up to 50Mb. $90 is a bit more tolerable but I can't imagine too many people jumping on a $140 tier, especially in this economy.

At least it's uncapped (according to Cox reps in the Cox forum).

I'd love to chalk it up to competitive pressure, but the lack of a link makes me think its a joke

At least comcast offers uncapped accounts.

PenTeleData doesn't have any uncapped tiers, even for business accounts and they are very expensive.

Re: why pick Cisco?

Like who? I cannot think of a better vendor.

Cisco makes great cable modems, and are the most reliable, in my opinion. Also, if it is a Cisco CMTS some additional features may be available by using a Cisco modem/router.

The reason I think Motorola dominated the market was because they were cheaper. Cisco is always more expensive, but carrier class. Cisco also is a lot more flexible than any other combo.

What are you going to do with all of that?

Honestly, there are a lot of download servers that can't even push data out at those speeds, hell most can't even push data at more than 6 Mbps when you start factoring in all of the other people downloading at the same time.

Lafayette has broadband... check out North Plains, Oregon

Dear Cox (and everyone else),

What about North Plains, Oregon? Here's a town literally 10 minutes from where 50,000 Intel employees go to work. There is dark fiber all over the region, but NO BROADBAND service in North Plains, Oregon.

And if North Plains isn't big enough, add in nearby Banks.

What other cities and towns can you build where you'll actually be helping?

why so much money for so little speed?????

why are they charging so much when you can get a 50 up 50 down connectionfor only $57.95 in lafayette with lafayette fiber network???? this will not get many users to see value in cox. cox charges about 67for non cox users and 57 for cox users for a 15 down connection 1mb up.

nolaguyfiber

@cox.net
this is expensive cox

to top that off they also get 100 up down when downloading or whatever with other users on the lafayette fiber network

You have to read the fine print. There is hidden costs not enumerated anywhere in the LUS price lists. Just like from the telcos:

Monthly rates shown are available to residential customers only and do not include required taxes or fees.

Because this isn't available in the outer areas of Lafayette and not all of Lafayette is currently hooked up for FTTH. It's going in phases...

Why does Cox bother?

Haven't they read the threads on how muni-broadband is failing everywhere? Now if AT&T was actually running fiber all the way to premises then they would have something to worry about .

Re: hmmmmm....

This isn't available in every area of Lafayette right now (FTTH by LUS).

Also, for people like me who are 2 miles too far out for FTTH in Lafayette it's perfect.
