Take that Bono

Glad so see this was stopped. Labels have no right to play with someone's interweb connection. They should go to the proper authorities, and the authorities go to the ISP, and the ISP makes a decision on what to do with the subscriber.

"country's worldwide" Didn't know the world was part of France. :-P

proof

they should ALWAYS have to show proof before terminating your connection... it should not be you having to prove you did nothing... no law should be passed that does not include burdon of proof by the acuser way beyond the "we think they did it" excuse

 Good

France most likely has laws similar to those in the USA which would allow for content owners to pursue legal action against people who infringe on their copyrights.

I am sick of the content industry trying to outsource the costs of the enforcement of their copyrights to ISPs, taxpayers, or any other third party.

The French did something right...

for once.

I wonder how long before they finally cave in to the AA's?

Re: Take that Bono

The isp doesn't have to do anything with the subscriber.

If the AAs have proof they need to contact proper authorities. Authorities look and said proof and then get proper subpoena/warrant .
The authorities contact isp get user info with above subpoena/warrants.
Authorities go back and get new warrants to search users home.
If evidence is found authorities take proper action.

Last time I checked the AAs are not any sort of authorized legal authority nor is the ISP. Although the AAs seem to think they are.

Sorry, but it wasn't stopped. They will just reintroduce it amd make sure enough legislators show up next time for the vote.

But the government played down the bill's defeat in the National Assembly, saying an amended version would be put before parliament in the coming weeks.
P.S.>> French have a strange legislature. For many votes, hardly anyone ever shows up to vote.

@mcmaster.ca

It's not strange at all. If you have no idea what the bill is about and you do not understand the theory behind it why would you blindly vote on it. For example, if you’re a finance minister in France then you are not expected to vote on nuclear weapons proliferation issues, etc

Viva la France!?

Of all places it appears that there may be intelligent life in the political bureaucracy.

ROFLMAO..

HAHAHA.. Jeez, I know something like that would happen.

Man, I bet the **AA's are pissed now. I'm sure the U2 manager just got pwned by his comment.

Re: Take that Bono

Of course the government has to say this is a temporary setback, otherwise they might as well call for new elections if they can't get their own party to pass their agenda.

Sounds like a minister revolt. Don't be surprised if this isn't taken up again by the current parliament.
