Cap Crap

We all know that they are not adding these dumb ass caps to makets they have competition, but what slaps us in the face is business customers wont get caps either. This is because there are a lot of companies that offer business data services....

Seems its all about screwing the guy who can't get service anywhere else.... Wonder if the "gouging" laws would come into play here..

No data, Karl?

How about this data: In my area, backbone bandwidth costs $100 per Mbps per month. And in many areas, it costs $325 per Mbps per month or more.

Bandwidth costs money. Would you expect the power company to give you unmetered electricity? The gas company to give you unmetered natural gas? Your local filling station not to meter the gasoline?

Who's being greedy here? Look in the mirror.

Re: No data, Karl?

Median monthly IP transit prices for 1,000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) ports in major U.S. and European cities ranged from $10-$14 per Mbps in Q2 2008.

Re: No data, Karl?

That price is only available at peering points to which it is expensive to connect. And it doesn't include backhaul, the local loop, service, support, overhead, or anything else. Again, in our area, the wholesale cost is $100 per Mbps per month. And we are not atypical.

Re: No data, Karl?

And we go right back to the last mile costs. A recent article here pointed out that to upgrade an entire system to D3 it only costs less than $100 per house passed.

For those who have never looked at a map, Laramie(or WY in general) is not a "typical area". It is,like a lot of places in the US are, BFE.

By the 2000 census the largest city in WY was Cheyenne at 53K people.

@rr.com

that statement doesn't work, as they pertain to natural resources. And internet download are not the same.

Natural resources run out eventually and the cost associated with them are to drive the usage down and keep it a stable and viable option for use for a while.

While internet usage actually goes down in price and natural resources go up as they run out

Oh? And you don't believe that Internet bandwidth is a resource that must be paid for?

TWC is a Monopoly

TWC has been getting away with bribing Congress for years. They run a vertically integrated business which is a violation of the anti trust laws in America.

Hollywood has been sued continually since 1921(»www.cobbles.com/simpp_archive/ft···into.htm) for violating anti trust laws and TWC has been getting away with murder since the Telecommunications Act was passed.

The last time Hollywood was broken up was in the 1960's when Lew Wasserman was forced to break up MCA in 1962 for, you guessed it, vertical integration and violation of the Sherman anti trust laws. He had a virtual monopoly on all TV and Motion pictures production until Kennedy forced him to break up MCA from its talent agency.

TWC are so arrogant and greedy they think they can do the same thing with the Internet business to support their cable monopoly control of content.
I hope this is the issue that broke the camels back and they are forced to break up just like MCA/Universal. The simulatarity of what TWC is doing to what Lew Wasserman did with MCA are un-canny.So far they are getting away with it.
