More channels crammed in

Hooray, we get more channels....now we can have every HD channel crammed with 3 more per QAM.

Marketing?

The 100/100 plan should be easy and attention grabbing advertising. I wish companies upgraded in all areas as fast as highly competitive ones.

Do they have the bandwidth available, or will quality have to be compromised?

If you look at lyngesat, many channels are already 3 per transponder anyway from the satellite. Some cable providers even have to pad their QAMs with extra bits to fill up the extra space.

So don't think that 3 per QAM automatically means "worse than FiOS" because FiOS gets it from the same place.

Linear or SDV?

will these channels be linear channels or SDV? Seems to me like the cablecos will need to be doing more and more SDV due to bandwidth limitations. I only care because I use a TIVOHD and anyone using cablecards doesn't get the SDV channels. We'll probably start seeing many more SDV channels for video as the qam channels are used up for bonding to provide faster internet.

Oh well...

No interest in any of those slated for New Jersey.

Cablevision distributes the SDV tuning resolvers for the Cablecards. You use that to tune SDV on your TiVO. They're free at a walk in center. Go pick one up (just call and make sure they're in stock before you do).

This has been discussed at length in the AV science forums, and it did appear that my Comcast picture quality was reduced on those channels grouped 3 per QAM. I agree it does not automatically mean the quality is inferior, but it is more prevalent when the signal is recompressed and not simply passed without any modification.

You don't have BBC America at all with CableVision?

They haven't launched their HD version of the network yet so you would have a tough time demanding that....

The request is for BBC America SD. CV has consistently ignored requests to carry this channel.

Re: More channels crammed in

Its still generally better than SD, and the charge for HD is built into the regular price, you're paying for it whether you use it or not. I just don't consider 4 channel per QAM anywhere near acceptable. Versus HD is virtually unwatchable, and I know its not the feed, because up at school in Albany, we get verus and its far better.

Re: More channels crammed in

Comcast is taking the feeds from the sats that are less than 3 per QAM and cramming them in 3 per QAM.

I can understand why you are bitter towards Comcrap, but they are not reflective of all cable providers.

But many cable providers are in fact passing along the signal as received, even if they are 3 per QAM, because they are received 3 per transponder on the satellite.

Subscribe? The HD box is the same price as the SD box. Just ask for one, no extra cost. Works great with SD sets too. You get the HD channels that go with your SD service plan. Only the DVR service is extra cost.

These will be going in place of the ones being taken out

These new hd channels will be going in place of the 16 that are being taken away from analog ( i think i have the number right could be wrong).

Thats why its going to take so long. So they will have the room for them by june.

because you won't pay for STB(s).

It is inevitable that the service will require some sort of STB or cablecard. Cablecards are cheap compared to the STBs. Maybe you need to hook the PC with the ATI Wonder to your TV... »ati.amd.com/products/tvwonderdig···dex.html

Or you could get the TIVO with two Cable Card slots »www.tivo.com/ and have digital tv and a digital vcr!

@verizon.net

Omni/Cablevision-Dolan-ruined Newsday et al can ....

... Continue their lies about their offerings to any fools who take 'em. This is coming to you care of Verizon-FIOS, which just replaced the old Cu Last 100' (literally) with fiber offering wider phone bandwidth than either old NYTel. Cu, modem speeds as promised, unlike anything Cablevision was *ever* able to do and a basic Cable-TV package that is growing, unlike Cablevision, which Basic users tell me, just knocked off another dozen 'included' channels.
It was a TV commercial morning as Verizon showed up to repair the ONLY fix needed - addition of a Cat-5e to their data modem which was pumping out noise due to sharing too much with the COAX (strange Verizon system uses a URL address and modem in every home to make TVs bi-di, rather than including it in the set-topper. Why? d/k but if you switch, remember to *demand* Cat5e line for your FIOS data link. Two trucks pulled up, and Cablevision took off w/o picking up their old crap.
When I called Dolanland to tell them our high-priced relationship was through, the guy came on alternately like a hood and a winer, promising me $123/mo guaranteed for 2 years: 30/5MHz when they'd never come close to the 20 I was paying for, and 3 TVs on Silver, a VOIP line (where signal quality, like speed drops when the kids come home from school)and promised to take me back for 31 days and buy out my FIOS contract.
We'll be paying $150 LESS per month than we paid for 2x as many channels (sans 90% shopping)2 unlimited-use phone lines, and better-than-minimum-20/20 than we were w/Dolanland, 1 Verizon line and ATT long-distance.
Real world: Verizon is not perfect- 2 ace techs, 2 turkeys. 1 installer who was a great electrician, but knew nothing about computers, one ace follow-on Monday morning over a problem that I found unsolvable Saturday night. And the V is regulated by state and federal laws, while Cablevision does what it wants, when it wants to.DON'T beleave a thing they say and won't put in writing

If CV added the channel the media would accuse them of supporting King George III.
