Funny...

Knology's laid-back attitude would be called "aggressive" by the likes of Comcast...they too will be finished deploying DOCSIS 3 in 2010...

 Knology Sucks...

Unless you like over-priced slow service with high pings and sporadic service. The only other option in my area is ATT DSL and I don't know if it's any better...

I disagree. Just because Comcast will be done in 2010 doesn't mean squat. Comcast has a huge footprint compared to Knology.

Knology has no reason why they can't get their entire network upgraded to Docsis 3.0 by the end of this year.

Comcast is rolling Docsis 3.0 very quickly given their size. Could they go faster? Sure. But they are going at very quit pace - they are aggressive.

Knology is taking a really laid back attitude.

Doc 3

Figures knology always taking the slow road. I wish verizon would come in and start deploying FIOS here. I bet the deployment would kick into high gear then. Sadly that will never probably happen. If it were to come true i would jump ship. No since in waiting on the old copper ship sink.

Is TWC going to be the last to upgrade to DOCSIS 3.0?

Faster speeds?

Since I can barely get 3Mbps most days from their 6Mbps service, I just can't get excited about this announcement.

It will just mean even more speed they can't provide me!!!

(feel free to see the Knology forum with plenty of my speed results posted!)

well, i can't same i'm not surprised... i still get a lot of lag in north columbus. their slow at upgrading the cmts. i'm not suprised about them being slow to go to docsis 3.0.

i hope columbus is 1 of the first to upgraded as it is the city nearest to it's HQ in west point.

a part from the lightreading article.

quote:
If Knology decides to launch Docsis 3.0 services based strictly on competitive factors, a likely first target is Pinellas County, Fla., a market served by Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) FiOS and Bright House Networks .

Other early candidates for Knology include Augusta, Columbus, and West Point, Ga.; and Knoxville, Tenn., where Knology is matched up with Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK), an MSO that expects to have Docsis 3.0 deployed in all systems by the end of 2010. (See 40%... & Counting.)

i think knology is ready to go in columbus, after 1 or 2 more cmts upgrades in some area's.

Knology CEO's quote

From above,
" According to Knology CEO Rodger Johnson, the company will enable faster DOCSIS 3.0 speeds "when we decide the time is right to push the trigger ." "

I would guess that Mr. Johnson is NOT an NRA member.

Isn't Columbus where Knology's call center is?

 Thanks Knology!

They only charge me $76.64 (along with basic cable) for this!

Re: Funny...

Comcast has a bigger footprint, but also has more customers. Knology has a smaller fooprint, but also has less customers. Though you're right, smaller companies can probably apply upgrades in a quicker fashion. Just look at OOL...they now have DOCSIS 3 available everywhere. Try that with Comcast.

If you are willing to pay them a $300 bribe to turn it on for you. This is in addition to a $35 fee to hand deliver the new DOCSIS3 Modem to you and hook it to your existent coax where you current modem is connected. I am willing to say the fee is probably justified since the visit allows the tech to test your line and verify that everything is working (something that is not possible with a self-install where they hand you the modem at a store front [or mail it to you] and you plug it in yourself). The extra $45/month (over the 30/5 Boost Tier rate) is not an issue since that pays for you getting the 101/15 tier.

Last major operator in history, yes.

Im sure if you look hard enough you can find the rural cable co from hell that still uses DOCSIS 1.0 with dial up upstream.

liquidation

If knology is an overbuilder, doesn't it need to be extra competitive against incumbent cable? with things like D3?

How has it not been chap 7 liquidated by now if it only offer 2 and 3 mbitps, and it has an incumbent cable co competing against it?

Re: Funny...

Still, DOCSIS 3 is available, and 50/10 from Comcast would be $140 per month so the math works out in OOL's favor after a year.

There isn't on my street. It's Knology or DSL.
