currently comcast for the isp thing & multiple hd/dvrs and on a sweetheart deal---however would have no issue going direct tv in a heartbeat if the deal does not remain attractive.

Comcast not worth it

I live in a building that includes the Comcast "basic analog" package in the rent. We're told that if we want anything beyond that, we must pay the difference in price, so essentially we have a credit of $18.95 per month (the cost of the basic analog service). We must establish a Comcast account even if we choose to not upgrade the service, so our bills each month show a debit of $18.95 for the basic analog then a credit of $18.95, for a net cost of $0. I did add the internet package (6Mb/1Mb) for $42.95/month.

OK, that should be simple enough, right? Wrong. After I purchased a new HDTV, I thought I would check into getting the digital service and possibly the HDTV DVR package. I tried online, that didn't work, says not valid for my account type. I tried through the online "live chat", am told I can't use that method. I call, after being switched from department to department over and over, being disconnected numerous times and having to redial and go through the long ordeal of button pressing only to be told to dial yet another number... I come to the conclusion that Comcast doesn't want me to upgrade.

I messaged with a nice gentleman here on DSLR who informed me of the correct packages and prices that I should be able to get, but trying to talk to the people at Comcast I'm stymied at every turn. Who could have guessed that simply having the basic cable included in my rent would cause such corporate confusion?

So I gave up. My TV does tune in the ClearQAM channels very well, I get a lot of them, even the HDTV locals. And since connecting my computer via HDMI to the tv, I can download very high quality programs from bittorrents and watch what I like. And I don't have to pay any extra. Sure, the bittorrents might not be completely "legal", but at this point I say "screw 'em". I tried, Comcast failed me. I'll just pocket the cash I would have spent on monthly cable bills and still enjoy the programs I want to watch by downloading them, and the plus side is they don't have commercials. So maybe it is a blessing in disguise.

I think computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We've created life in our own image.
