Re: WowWTF, $220 a MONTH??? Might as well buy a tri-band UMTS/HSDPA 7.2 USB modem and just sign up for a prepaid data plan wherever you go.... pays off for itself in a matter of months. Even better... just buy an unlocked "world phone" that is a standard quad-band GSM/EDGE, and tri-band UMTS device.... at least you get cheap voice and data wherever you go...
Jeez.... why would anyone want this???

When youre a company that has high level execs traveling overseas 2-3 times a year for a week at a time. You cant ask them to go out and buy their own modem. Also, they have Blackberries and want/need to check their email on there all the time and have the same phone # to be reachable.

Re: WowSo basically the people who have money to burn and just want it to work. Instead of people like us who watch where our money goes and are smart and resourceful enough to do better for less.

Re: WowWe've seen in many things that people are willing to pay a huge premium for a technology that "just works well." Look at the prices people pay here for services like texting.

When you're an exec you don't have time to mess around with technology to save a few bucks.

True that. It is so much cheaper to buy the pay-as-you-go Internet service from the local wireless carriers overseas when you are traveling. Once you are done, just throw it away.
It is funny too that friends from abroad who visit here in the US roll their eyes when they try to buy pay-as-you-go cellphones as the prices are too high. Furthermore, all the phones are locked to that particular carrier so they can't use it back home as spares.

diarrhea? On the heels of possible increased FIOS broadband speed tiers, we have this plop of a news release from Verizon.
Who cares, the world outside of broadband black holes is not clamoring for wireless broadband just yet, particularly on the terms Verizon sells it.

Re: diarrhea?Verizon Landline and Verizon Wireless have 2 different corporate philosophies. The right and left hands rarely agree.

just another ME Too marketing press releaseOh come on Verizon. Most people that travel overseas are going to just purchase a prepaid usb card in the country they are traveling to (or rent one). World roaming capability has not paid off for AT&T and it won't pay off for you.
So stop doing the "ME TOO" philosophy and start bring out innovative products (hint: LTE would be good begging step for video phones).

It is too bad that Iridium failedIt would be great if a company could offer LEO satellite service around the world. Say they offered a flat rate data service at $40/ month available around the globe. You could then run VOIP for phone service. It would really shake up the cell phone industry.
I have no idea if the economics would work. But it is nice to dream.
