Interactive could be good

I'm all for interactive advertising if it means you can throw it in the trash and get on about your viewing. But please don't slow down my DVR response time any more.

Ditto.

New button on every remote: "Not interested" ... after the first few seconds (5? 10?) of every commercial, you can hit the "Not interested" button to skip the rest of the commercial. (Maybe even set an auto-skip for certain commercials that keep repeating and repeating and...)

Demographical targetted, ehh?

So, the ads are suppose to be demographically targetted, eh?

Ok... I'm a 20-35 year old female, in excellent shape in the market for women's lingerie.

BRING ON THE VICTORIA'S SECRET ADS!!!

Well duh...

It's simple -- they need to turn up the volume on their injected commercials, so they're at least 150% louder than the other ads and the program you're watching.

The current 50% louder just isn't doing the trick.

Yay!

That's exactly what we need! Better/more advertising. Product placements, high service rates, and online ads are just not enough, consumers need more!

Bah!

Re: Yay!

Of course. Why spend on infrastructure and customer service when they can just get a better ad service?

It reads ok to me. The problem you are having is that there is no punctuation and you must insert it yourself as you read it. Here it is with the needed punctuation and capitalization - [...] are inserted words to make it flow better:

I can see it now! Lawsuits [will] fly because say I owe someone a little money. All I will see [then] is debt ads [about] n[h]ow to get out of debt?

Creepy.

Does anyone else find this incredibly creepy and orwellian?

Not only that, but..... Could lead to crimes, hate crimes, sex crimes etc if the database was leaked.

Dangerous.

There seems to be a "kink" in the story!

Which story do we believe? Is it lack of technology or concerns about privacy? My uneducated guess "lack of technology". They don't give a rats behind about your privacy as long as they can make a buck.

Re: Creepy.

It's occurred to me that the bi-directional nature of a cable or FiOS subscriber's connection to TV service is a big chink in privacy.

Think about it. Your TV provider can know what channel you've tuned to. What programs you've recorded. Not to mention any VOD or pay-per-view programming you've selected.

In "Minority Report" Tom Cruise is walking through a mall and advertising screens recognize him as he walks by. They address him by name and push ads geared toward him.

We may not be too far from that being science reality rather than science fiction.
