New button on every remote: "Not interested" ... after the first few seconds (5? 10?) of every commercial, you can hit the "Not interested" button to skip the rest of the commercial.  (Maybe even set an auto-skip for certain commercials that keep repeating and repeating and...) |

It's simple -- they need to turn up the volume on their injected commercials, so they're at least 150% louder than the other ads and the program you're watching.
The current 50% louder just isn't doing the trick. |

It's occurred to me that the bi-directional nature of a cable or FiOS subscriber's connection to TV service is a big chink in privacy.
Think about it. Your TV provider can know what channel you've tuned to. What programs you've recorded. Not to mention any VOD or pay-per-view programming you've selected.
In "Minority Report" Tom Cruise is walking through a mall and advertising screens recognize him as he walks by. They address him by name and push ads geared toward him.
We may not be too far from that being science reality rather than science fiction.  |
