Notebook

Let's hope the notebook promo will not be as problematic as the last one with those HDTVs.

What about for us existing customers? What is our incentive to stay?

Your two year contract ...

Goodies are to sign up for new service, just like every other provider does

I'd love to get in on this, but...

I'll be moving to Portland, OR in two weeks and have all ready called Verizon to get my account transferred up there.

Nope, FiOS stops two blocks from where I'll be living and according to Verizon, no prospect of them ever extending service to the neighborhood. Heck I can't even get my existing DSL service reestablished there, it's "Qwest country" or so I'm informed.

So I guess I'll be getting that fabulous ComCraptic service I keep reading about here on DSLR.

And for you folks that would say 'move two blocks over'... It's very difficult to move an existing house that's been already fully paid for, twenty-five years ago. The house was willed to me and I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

D-NY get special treatment..AGAIN

Just take a look at »Re: Any new Speed tiers?
You can't tell me that D-NY doesn't get exclusive deals compared to everyone else in FiOS areas. I'm sure the argument is that they are in "more competitive" areas but that's just not the full truth. Cablevision and FiOS compete in more areas than just D-NY and they arn't seeing the deals to make customers want to choose FiOS over Cablevision. The same can be said now for Comcast and FiOS in Philadelphia and its suberbs. If any region is "competitive" it would be inside of the backyards of both Cablevision and Comcast. This is where we should be seeing these special deals extended to and not just D-NY.

Of course it'd be ideal to just equally price and offer the same deals across the whole FiOS footprint but that's never been done by Verizon. The closest we've gotten to that is right now where every FiOS area gets the same tiers - even though some areas get them cheaper than others but at least they can still order them. Now they're about to change that and who knows how long it'll be, if ever, until we see it evenly offered again.

Re: I'd love to get in on this, but...

Can't get Qwest DSL there (or maybe Comcast)?

In any case, Verizon is abandoning Oregon and Washington states within the next year anyway. So if one wants FiOS someday around here, make sure it's available NOW. I suspect that Frontier won't be expanding the FiOS boundaries much.

Re: ?

I'll bet not. I'm guessing the tiers will be as follows:

15/5
25/15
35/20
50/20

or something to that effect. Interesting that there will no longer be a symmetric tier, but 35/20 is still quite speedy. Considering the price difference between 25/15 and 35/20 is going to be minimal still, at least with current plan pricing, guess which one I'd want?

Nope - because you still can't bundle the 20/20

20/20 still exists for everyone outside of D-NY. It's rumored to be upgraded to 25/25 in August. 20/5 gets upgraded to 25/15 and 10/2 gets upgraded to 15/5. D-NY will get 35/20 in replacement of 20/20.

Just like with the speed upgrades last year you have to call in and renew your contract to get the new speeds. Unlike last year's speed upgrades these ones are not free because the current price of bundles is being increased at the same time.

existing customers get also get the netbook or the camcorder for free, but need to sign up for the new bundles. If you sign up for the new bundle then you can get the netbook for $99 + S/H + Tax

Only new customers will get the netbook for free.

Re: I'd love to get in on this, but...

Damn that sucks man. That is just crazy. Just two blocks. I really wish the place I am moving to would be serviced by Verizon...but it's not. It's gay AT&T. So it's either lame slow problematic AT&T DSL or fast charter that I've had not such a great experience with in the past many years ago. Hope it's better now.
