Only need to read the first few posts

Only need to read the first few posts to realize it's all about the stupidity of some people!!

Like some one said, they're falling all over themselves.

Do you think I would pay the price for FIOS, regardless of speed, when I can get simple DSL (7.1/768) or Cable (5/512), for under $40? Not me, baby!!

Yes,
I can get faster cable, but there again, DSL is faster, for the money I'm willing to spend. This is partially the stupidity that has the country where it's at today!! People living beyond there means.

Which, as someone else said, if a bunch of Geeks think it's cool, so must be good. People are also to dumb to think for themselves anymore.

LIBN caught the price hike

Ahem, NYT was not the only news outlet to spot the price hikes.

Verizon pricing

After you have your first problem with the big "V" you will run back to cable... I have experienced both and I am proud to run a little slower for better customer service. After the huge mess that Verizon created for me, I will NEVER go back to their service.

technically not a price hike

A price hike would be the same service for more money. In Verizon's case they are offering a different service bundle for a different price, so technically its not a price hike.

Also the changes are for new customers not existing. So if these are new customers how can you hike the price of someone who was not paying for service before? Its their fault if the service was available to them and they decided not to sign up sooner.

For existing customer's you keep your promotional rate which was just that Promotional. You knew when you signed up that your rate would increase after your promotional term expired, and that you had the option to either accept the higher priced month-to-month option or sign up for whatever current bundle was being offered. So again to say it was a price hike is just slightly misleading. Price hikes is what cable does where the price goes up every year, service either stays the same or includes fewer channels. Granted, not all price increases are their fault, like when the content providers raise their prices, but, the cable companies do charge the same price for their service even when they move channels to digital, thus giving you fewer channels for the same price. If you want the same channels you have to rent a box, so that IS a price increase.

what about customer service

Verizon sure has the best service and may have decided they don't need to compete on price, however they probably have the worst customer service and really should fix that before they decide they are better than everyone else.

I know that the Comcast ad with the front lawn being torn up is ridiculous, but they could easily create a customer service nightmare ad which would not be ridiculous at all.

Edit - just want to clarify that this is not due to the reps - they are all helpful in my experience. It's the lousy system in place.

A little? Yes. A lot? No way.

In our market, FIOS basic triple play is $5 more than Time Warner's ($94.99 vs. $89.95) and that small amount isn't hurtin FIOS penetration at all, especially with the promos lately (like $150 gift card). But from what people are saying in my complex, a difference much greater than that will be a deal killer. I honestly don't think the average user will see such a dramatic advantage for FIOS over cable to warrant a "premium" price differential, especially as cable speeds in this area are at least competitive if not better.

I think FIOS is a great product, but this stance at this particular time in the market cycle (not just the recession but the fact that cable is a more-widely known and deployed product) sounds like unwarranted arrogance to me.
