| Can you say Rapidshare-torrent?
Storage venues like Megaupload, Rapidshare, etc, make their money in illegal file sharing (under the guise of Upload for free, download per fee, along with advertising/subscription model). I don't know anyone that uses these service for anything legal. Yet RS, MU, ... do compensate for traffic, etc. Again, I do not know anyone that makes money, but I can "guess" that if one person uploads files of a desirable adult movie, and others have accounts and download that file, you can make some change on the traffic and/or referrals. So how do these sites make money? Traffic through ISPs to keep fat-pipe costs low? Advertising metrics? Well, for starters you can upload then share the files, earn points with all the upload traffic, convert those points into accounts, and then sell those accounts for money (paypal...). Pyramid! |

You mean to tell me there is possible illegal activity surrounding with the purchase of a criminal outfit? I for one am shocked and outraged that an organization who would buy a website whose entire business model revolved around copyright infringement would even consider insider trading.
Oh, and no. Their business plan will utterly fail because the content producers won't pay them and they won't be able to pay the people bootlegging the material for them. If they have a board of directors and the board didn't approve of this, criminal charges should be filed and the culprit should be ousted. |

Yes, it was fun and easy, but back to google I guess since it seems to be better at finding torrents than the pirate bay at times. At least Google has enough money for legal defenses that they will never be shut down. As long as people keep thinking that only sites like the piratebay allow you download content, Google will live on indefinitely. -- Fight Insight Ready (Was NebuAD) and the like: Click Here to pollute their data |

I'm curious to what peerialism has to do with all this...
I wouldn't be surprised if a new all-in-one p2p is developed with a distributed file table and tracker info that is fast. Somehow I also wouldn't be surprised if the piratebay is split off in the future and 'fails' (no apparent centralized entity, but nothing has changed from the point of the user). It'd be interesting to see how the MAFIAA tries to sue something that has no centralized entity. |

So long piratebay. Was good for when around when I first started torrents but rarely ever go back to that site unless all my other options have ran out. If thats the case and I usually do find it on piratebay then its usually mislabeled or password protected rars and there is a reason its not on the other sites. |

Repeat after me, "The Pirate Bay hosts the torrents on their server and makes fun of copyright holders when asked to remove said torrents." Google does not host the torrent files and responds in the appropriate manner to DMCA take down requests. |

You don't think TPB existed to make money? TPB owners care about the same thing that the copyright owners that they're defrauding care about....money. |

said by Matt :"The Pirate Bay hosts the torrents on their server and makes fun of copyright holders when asked to remove said torrents." And the torrents contain no property of the complainants, therefore the appropriate thing to do is tell them to go f**k themselves. Oh but according to you it's illegal to make fun of someone who tells you to do something that they have no right to tell you to do.
DMCA takedown requests are to be used to remove your own intellectual property from someone elses server, since tpb hosted none of their property it means DMCA requests have no bearing. Oh wait, there's also the matter of them not being in the USA, and thus not being obligated to respond to DMCA requests etc... You are aware that there are other countries right? and that US law doesn't apply in them any more than their laws apply to you. --
