@rr.com

This is not the problem

All your internet traffic is sent through a NSA bot filter anyway, whats the big deal with this. You have no expectation of privacy whatsoever unless you have the right kind of encryption.

All of you idiots who didn't bother reading...

you guys are retarded, if you had even bothered to read, it specifically states...
to more closely inspect the traffic traveling between government networks and the private-sector
They are NOT monitoring the average joe shmoe, they are checking the packets destined for, or originating from, government networks or private firms with government-contracted projects. This is a GOOD thing.

Re: For those who voted for Obama

Why?

Seems like a smart move. I do not see a downside to this.

Snooping or Monitoring

The article said: "to more closely inspect the traffic traveling between government networks and the private-sector"

The Government has every right to protect its most sensitive information from being used by published. This is a dangerous world you don't know who is lurking in the shadows. Cyber threats can be as harmful as as any terrorist attack. Would you want our defense secrets hacked and given to the Taliban or Iran? This is the world we live in get used to it.

Moooooo

@myvzw.com

This has nothing to do with spying on people..

It has to do with situation awareness. As someone who worked on both versions 1 and 2, I know exactly what the program is about, and that is all I will say on the matter.

As for being on a gov network, you have no expectation of privacy, plain and simple. Every single time you log onto the network, you get a banner message that says everything you do will be monitored.

Same goes for people who use external gov sites, read the privacy agreement, it states that everything you do while interacting with a gov system is subject to monitoring.

What is so difficult to understand about that.

Also, I am not sure what ATT has to do with this, since the program from a technical aspect is somewhat voluntary as you place taps on your ISP side cable drops (could be anyone, not just ATT) and it must pass muster from the privacy offices of the respective agencies.

Seriously people.. take off your tinfoil hats..
