Broadband Price

When I recently switched from Windstream to Newwave (something I thought I would never do) do to disconnects all the time.

The customer service rep said and I quote.

I can give you 6mb?xxxup for the same price as your 3mb/xxx service..

Which pissed me off to be honest. Because I wasn't even getting my 3megs. Since I had my service for a year and a half, the most I got down was 2.5.. and I had just finished explaining that to them. Why switch to 6 when I'd probably not get the service I paid for.

There so stuck in there god danged scripts that they don't even hear you when you speak. Maybe its because of the state or city I live in.. I don't know. But they really put on a show as far as customer service goes, but when it comes to actually delivering it.. well they fall short in my opinion.(although they do seem to be trying to improve that)

Anyways, interesting article...

19.99 for one year!

here is what you do... say you saw a promotion on the internet for 19.99 a year....
this will save you lots of money for a year.

if they put you on 6 month... call after 6 month and repeat the process.. say you are having financial trouble which is true and you would like to be on promotion for another year...
i know it sound cheesy but hey you gotta save money sometime... money is limited for most of us

Threatening to cancel

I have never had to threaten to cancel to get a promo price out of Comcast. I've found that the best strategy is to call up and ask nicely if they have any promotions.

Right now I'm getting CDV/TV/Phone for $100/mo, which is fine by me (especially considering that I have the 8Mbps HSI package and the higher-tier TV package).

Qwest just added 20Mbps service at my house, and I would consider switching. But honestly I'd prefer to stick with Comcast (better latency) and at the $45/mo I'm paying for Internet+Phone for the next 6 months, even Qwest's promotional price is $20 more.

I do mark the date when my promo runs out on my Google calendar so that I can either switch to a cheaper package or ask for another deal.

I did squeeze a discount from embarq...

Unfortunately, I am kinda stuck in between a rock and a hard place... Rock = Embarq and Hard Place = Comcast. I had a $60 bundle with Embarq (phone with 6 features and 3.0M/512k DSL)... I got tired of paying for the landline. I called up Embarq to cancel the landline but I was offered the phone (CID only) and 3.0M DSL for the price of dry DSL alone. I decided to keep Embarq.

I was looking at the Comcast offers but the they have a contract tied to it and/or are not available to me since I only have Limited Basic cable (I am not a TV junkie) with no plans of upgrading...

I wish we had this FTTP/UVerse thing folks are talking about, though. I feel like I am stuck in the dark ages LOL

$25 Comcast HSI + $25 Limited Basic Cable = Happy customer

I just lowered my bill with the 1Mbps/.356 service for $25.
Latency is the same. Same speed, just less bandwidth.

My transfers start off at 5Mbps, then slowly lowers to an average between 1-2Mbps. Upload remains a constant .366Mbps.

I have the analog limited basic cable for $20 plus a digital box for $5. The digital box is only 480i, no s-video or hdmi output. So, it's all digital up to the box, then analog to my tv. The picture quality is superior to regular analog. My other TV has a built in ATSC tuner, and is a mix of analog and digital channels.
