| | screw bell Should vote for the NDP, they don't let people get away with this kinda crap. Right now would be a great time for a public harassment campaign 4Chan style against bell and the CRTC. Bell should block 4Chan so I see my dream become a reality. | |

I thought the CRTC was suppose to protect consumers.
This decision has pretty much stomped on the competition here in Canada. I guess paying huge monthly bills for what little internet we have is going to be the norm from now on.
After all... what good is paying for high speed internet when the bandwidth is crippled with huge fees?

| What do we do now? This is Canada, what do we do now? What can be done next? I think many of us wrote letters to our MPs, our MPPs, the CRTC, the BBB, etc.... Personally, I think the next step should be filing an injunction against the CRTC's decision and take this up a notch in court. | |

Unless everyone boycotts internet for a while there is nothing you can do but pay up or suffer.

·Optimum Online
| Tell Me About It I am currently visiting my sister in Mississauga (I am from Optimum Online country) and it is appalling the caps they have with Rogers. Her family is voluntarily blacking out Internet Thursday and Friday because their usage is a bit high over several days. Between two adults and two teenagers they are limited to 2GB/day in order to avoid incurring overage charges on their 60GB/month cap. Between the streaming video the kids watch and various sites the adults visit, they chew it up pretty quickly. Coming from Optimum Online with no caps and 15/2 speed with the basic service I am glad I do not have to live under Rogers or Bell service. -- I support the right to keep and arm bears. | |

| | The CRTC is an epic faulire and should be disbanded... The agency is nothing more then a waste of everything.... It is about as good at doing its job as FEMA was during and after katrina.... | |

| | Aus Court case Here in AU we had a similar sittuation that went to court. The case ended with the main Telephony provider having to reduce fees because they were selling retail with better conditions than wholesale which was deemed to be "anti-competitive behaviour" | |

| | Meh...doesn't suprise me... It's Canada after all!
In early April since we were no longer under contract with Bell Expressvu and we canceled with the one month notice. Bell conveniently kept on charging away until July's bill at which time we had been disconnected yet paying for two months of service we didn't actually get. The refund of course could ONLY be done via check by mail which by them could take "4-8 weeks" depending on how much they need to keep your money in their pocket.
I've done house calls to enough people paying $50+ for their 1-3 megabit DSL connections that have ping times in the range of infinity and beyond. Of course the question of speed/price doesn't come into question until I download a file that is over 1GB in size.
Internet in Canada is just like the weather is, there really isn't anything you can do about it.

1 edit | Demand that the CRTC be dismantled I've sent in a complaint to Industry Canada demanding that the CRTC be dismantled. »www.competitionbureau.gc.ca/eic/···H-6X9KQY
I've also asked them to outline how a citizen would accomplish that if thousands of complaints won't do it. If I don't get a reply in 48 hours, I'm going to call them on Monday morning. It's nice to complain, but "here and now" is what that's achieved so far. Any legal minds have any ideas on how we can band together?

| | | Re: Appalling! Yes, the CRTC is working for Bell now. And I don't think there's anything we can do about it legally; Bell will just bribe or threaten whoever else is next in line.
But you know what? Screw the CRTC. They're irrelevant. We, the customers, have the strongest weapon of all: we have the power to decide where we're going to be spending our money.
Have your land line disconnected and get a non-Bell cell phone (last I heard they have Bell, Virgin and Solo), and stop using any service that involves sending money to Bell. Sadly this means hurting good companies like TSI, but this is the only scenario where the bad guys don't win.
You want to hurt Bell? It's exceedingly easy. Stop giving them money.
