Comcast has been have advert via Red Light of Disappointment

Comcast has for years had advert though their Red Light of Disappointment screens. But these messages were not pop up ad like the one from ATT. At least with comcast you could go into the setting options to turn off these Red Light of Disappointment message. Currently with ATT UV there is No Opt Out options to turn off these pop ups.

Which box allows you to turn off messages? Not my DCT 6200.

Try this - go to the Main Menu, select Set Up, then Guide Set Up, scroll down to page 2 of this menu and change Message Indicator to Off.

Yeah its there. Thanks. I wasn't actually looking to turn it off though. It doesn't bother me that much. But why is it there? It seems like it should be in the Cable Box Setup section.

AT&Ts Statement Is A Lie

AT&Ts statement on this is simply spin - come on, we are not stupid. The other messages that have come up about a DVR upgrade are completely different than trying to get people to upgrade service.

This WAS A PAID advertisement - it was was /paid/ for by US (i.e., your paying customers) and was an advertisement for AT&T to try and convince others to go to a higher level of service.

AT&T - use snail mail or advertise on TV in a normal commercial, but do NOT interrupt our viewing - especially when we are already PAYING YOU to watch in the first place.

There is enough crap on the TV screens to begin with, stupid logos for each station in the bottom corners, stupid animated crap advertising upcoming shows, etc.; things like CNNs banner running across the bottom.

We have ENOUGH distractions - the last thing we need is our TV service interrupting what little of the show we already can see.

Do not try to spin as informing customers of anything - you were plain and simple trying to upsell and if you try to frame it any differently then you are flat out lying and you dang well know it.

AT&T's never had a problem with lying before.

Once is enough!

I saw the message on the main TV in my home, and clicked DISMISS. I didn't realize that the company is going to make every receiver in the home display the message. That's a little bit much. While the message itself did not bother me, though I would rather have a message indicator at the bottom of the screen, I was more bothered that it was like 'No' was not an option since it was on all my screens.

Why not do what Verizon FIOS does, message alert...

My feelings about this...

I always know what Verizon FIOS is offering without them being intrusive or annoying. I just get a message alert in the window of the settop box or in the main menu near messages, it will say (new). Then I can view them on my time. Maybe a hot new message comes up once the box is turned on but not right in the middle of my show; thats fine though as that is how I learned about a lot of cool features.

If I understood correctly, these messages pop up annoyingly without warning, is this so, please elaborate cause my days with a provider like this would only be limited to how long im stuck in a contract. If Verizon did this, I might be angry enough to take Optimum's Triplay & use the $200 off to buy myself out of the agreement, fortunately, thankfully, they dont.

Providers, if you want customers to buy your products, give them what they want when you can.

Look at the other forms of advertising we put up with.

I agree that having the pop up ads on our tv's are bad, and if it comes to it I will cancel my service because of it, we already get shafted, and here is why the tv channels are already chapping my behind with their mini to medium sized pop up ads to advertise their programs, it burns me up when watching a show and all of a sudden the ad expands to take up 1/3 to 1/2 of the screen to advertise one of their shows, also it irks me when you are finishing watching a movie or a good tv show and you want to read the credits, they either split the screen or reduce the view of the show down and make a ad dominant on the screen that you can't read the credits, and we let them get away with it, so naturally now the people in charge think they can get away with the popups now. Think of it people, we have been letting them get away with it for years now and haven't complained about it, now they are wanting to take it to the next level, with the popups on our paid service to advertise things, I have already lodged my complaint on the popup on the Uverse and have openly objected to networks on their popups and the way they do the endings of movies and shows. But until we all as one voice complain about it they will keep on getting away with mistreating us. Think about it people.
