Symmetrical 5/5

A symmetrical 5/5 I think is a good middle bar. It makes the DSL and cable providers both have to up the speed a little and might get the United States up to around 10th place in the world, up from its dismal 23rd last I had read? Is that right still? US is 23rd? Unsure.

Industry has failed at setting bar!

Anything less than than 1Mbps / 1Mbps with reasonably low latency should not be considered actual broadband! That's today, 5/5 would be a reasonable level for 2015, 25/25 for 2020.

144K Symmetrical

I know its not a popular position on a power-user forum, in blue states, or among anti-corporates.

But if I lived 10 miles outside of town, and my current choices were dialup and satellite, I would find 144K more than satisfactory, if it was $100 a month or less.

There simply isn't any application, necessary to sustain life, run a business, or promote economic growth, that requires any more speed.

There may be luxuries that use such speeds, but we don't need to use taxpayer monies to pay for them.

Re: 144K Symmetrical

Broadband should be two gigabits per seconds at a minimum. Anything else is not broadband...period. Either aim high and be the best or be shot down by the competition.
