Comments on news posted 2009-10-29 16:36:51: While we're hearing from a large number of Sprint customers who insist the company is correcting their previously dismal customer service, Sprint's latest earnings numbers indicate that subscribers are still fleeing the carrier. ..

handsets, cost of service, qos

apparently it's about both handsets and cost/quality of service! sprint needs to drastically improve in ALL areas! also, handsets need to be cheap & feature filled. sprint's $50 unlimited everything plan has some competition from tracfone, and now tmobile in the prepaid arena. Phones are marginally getting better for those carriers as well. The last shoe to drop in the availability of SMART device phones with wifi/multimedia player and applications. Keep in mind, entry level subsidized phones for trac are $7-10. So, a subsidy smart phone can only be $150-$300 range (in addition to onboard memory, transflash sdhc can go as high as 32gb, maybe 64gb in the future-- plenty of space) plus have a minimum of 8gb of internal memory. We're still not quite there yet, but the next 5 years would seem to indicate innovation is coming to the wireless industry. sprint beter hope it gets things right or it's at most risk for going under. there's always a possiblity of becoming a wireline business & offering some comptetition to AT&T in the wireline footprint (post bankruptcy).

dad shopped around, ended staying with sprint

my dad's been a nextel customer for probably 10 years. over the summer, after having been purposely without a contract for quite a while as he looked around at his available wireless options, he resigned with sprint.

his previous complaints dating back to Nextel and largely continuing with Sprint, were mainly shitty customer service, not as wide coverage, and shitty phones (he was a PTT user).

He resigned with Sprint for 2 years because of their $99 unlimited everything plan and they were offering the best cheap/free phone at the time. since he'd been spending on average $99/mo for service for the last probably 5 to 7 years, he never even thought about data plans. for the same $99 he now gets "unlimited" data and texting. he'd never sent a text or used mobile web in his life...now he txt's me @ all the time and enjoys the NASCAR apps on the phone.

the data is a little slow and the high speed is spotty around us, but it was basically free with hsi new contract. i dont think he could be any happier with his decision.

he'd originally wanted to go with Verizon since he switched the family to their Family plan 2+ years ago but VZW only allows like 5 lines per plan. that single-handedly lost them his business. we have 7 people in our family - my dad and i have had our own plans for years. it was cheaper for his to be on his own Sprint plan by himself than to create a new VZW account where he'd spend more money and get less (no data)

CDMA phone selection

I can't imagine some people think Sprint has a poor phone selection. They are a CDMA carrier and have an excellent selection of phones, not only BB, Pre, Hero, Pixi, Moment, but also their non-pda phones. VZ is the only company this could be compared to and VZ phone selection is horrible with locked down operating systems. I have my Pre tethered to my laptop half the time. I can run a full linux OS and Spint doesnt give a damn. Their customer service is top notch now and is based in the US, not India like some others. Dan Hesse is a champ and this ship will take a while to steer right but it is on the way. Sprint still has to eat the crap from the Nextel deal.

Re: CDMA phone selection

I'm actually quite happy with my Sprint service.

Since Hesse took over and there's a ton of bad practices out of the window (like extending my contract for changing the amount of minutes I need), it's rock solid.

The novelty of my iPhone is slowly wearing off, and I realize it's not the iPhone I like so much as simply the browsing capability (anywhere) and the music.

I carried an iPod in my car always and this just combined two devices in one.

I kind of really wish the Droid was coming to Sprint.

HTC Touch Pro2

Sprint is missing an opportunity to market this phone. The Wall Street Journal ad campaign has included just about everything but this unique phone. It's like an iPhone touchscreen, but with a keyboard. It also has hand writing recognition. The best feature is that it is an international phone. I consider this phone everything that the iPhone has, and more. For a business customer who has been with Sprint for over 10 years, this one is an out of the park homerun. They must have a supply shortage because this is a no-brainer.

No surprises here

Danny Boy can spin it all he wants but taking away the EWD and EDRP plans for the 6000 network employees sold off to Ericsson in September didn't help the numbers (or morale) either.

Keep up the good work, Dan. Maybe make another cheesy commercial from the back seat of your chauffeured town car.

WARNING: synopsis offered at end

I work for Radioshack in IA, and from my standpoint Sprint tends to be the go-to carrier here. We just launched T-Mobile not too long ago (just a few months before they rolled out the Even More plans), and while that's been eating up business because it's the "new thing," it's not that great of a network here (nigh zero coverage and no 3G). The only thing worse is Boost Mobile, due to lack of iDEN coverage and massive congestion of the network.

Even throughout the Boost Unlimited launch and T-Mobile being introduced in our area, Sprint has maintained a high volume of subscribers and contract renewals. AT&T, however... they've suffered a bit, mainly due to high deposit requirements. They've hands-down got the best phones and network coverage in the area, but a lot of the people here either can't afford the deposits, or they prefer the lower price-points offered by Sprint.

Or they're iPhone tools. Which we have a lot of.

The way I see things from my unique perspective as both user (I have -technically, someone else is using it- an LG Lotus through Sprint and a BlackBerry/SE Xperia through AT&T) and employee, I prefer AT&T for overall usage, and Sprint for pricing. T-Mobile would be top dog if we had any sort of competitive coverage with their new Even More plans, and Verizon is just too expensive for most Central IA users.

Sprint changed the game when they offered their Simply Everything plan while other carriers were going for unlimited voice only; with the introduction of Boost lowering the price even further, and T-Mobile raising the bar with post paid plans, we can only wait and see which carrier jumps on the lower-priced bandwagon next. I have a feeling it'll be Verizon, hoping to break their stigma of nickel-and-diming customers, followed by Sprint and AT&T (due to their holding of the iPhone... for now).

Massive wall of text synopsis: Sprint seems like they're pulling back into the game, slowly but surely. I wouldn't count them out just yet.

Sprint is horrible

I got rid of Sprint this month. There network is a joke. I had two phones, both of them rarely worked inside buildings. The billing department was out of the twilight zone. Too all the goons on here that thing there network is so great, and that there billing problems are behind them -- why the hell are they continuing to lose nearly a million customers a quarter!! Sprint is still all screwed up -- do yourself a favor and go with Verizon or AT&T, hell even T-Mobile would be better.

Sorry man. I have 2 phones on Sprint. HTC Touch pro and BB Tour. My Sprint service is great. Maybe if you were an informed customer and knew how to solve your own issues, you would not take that stance on Sprint.
We know the SERVICE doesn't work inside thick buildings that well. WE GET IT! do YOU KNOW WHY? Research it.

The network is fine for me. So when Verizon sends you that $200 bill for 1 phone line. Just remember that JE's bill is about $125 after taxes for 2 Phones, including a BlackBerry....LMAO!

@optonline.net
Sprint is so ghetto. The only thing keeping them alive are the goons on SERO plans and the hoodrats on Boost.
