Comments on news posted 2009-10-30 11:11:45: Earlier this week we noted how Verizon's quarterly subscriber additions for their fiber to the home FiOS service were lower than anticipated. The company added 191,000 new FiOS subs on the quarter, down from the 300,000 added in the second quarter. ..

Wish I could get Fios

Their biggest problem? People that want it most can't order it. Why not put out a website and people who want fios put in their address. Then they can see what area's have the most requests and be sure to build fios there.

Everyone I talk to see's the Fios commercials on TV and we all want it... but they will not build here. Verizon's lost out big time. They could have all these customers but if you don't build it, they can't come.

Were stuck with Comcast and their archaic guide, 40 HD channels and 8mb internet. It sucks to not have any competition. Verizon DSL is only 3 mbps. What a friggen waste. I don't want to give verizon a penny anyway, unless they commit to building Fios here. Otherwise they can go F*** themselves. I seriously hope Verizon exec's read this.

Being contacted when it is available is a hit and miss system. I've installed many customers who submitted their contact info, then subsequently place the order by phone. The fact is, the representative has more than one tool available to check availability, whereas the website seems to depend on data that is not updated as quickly as other systems. Verizon half-heartedly implements good ideas, but they certainly will send out a bill on time.

Stil waiting....

in Brick NJ - part of the town is wired and up; part is either wired but not switched on, or not wired at all.

Can't wait for it to arrive to my home.

I would snap FIOS up in a heartbeat...

... but we got no FIOS love in DC. No Congressional representation, either. I think I'd rather have the FIOS, though.

next

VZ cut spending on copper to deploy FIOS and now they will probably cut funding to FIOS in order to get LTE deployed.

Maybe if they actually offered it....

Maybe if they actually offered it in our area instead of BLASTING US WITH ADS FOR A SERVICE WE CAN'T EVEN GET..........

WTF FIOS, IF YOU ARE GOING TO ADVERTISE IN OUR AREA, AT LEAST OFFER IT HERE.

I mean, seriously, I would switch in an instant if it was actually offered here (Comcrap ftl), but nope, the other half of our town is wired for fios, but not here.

Well, the former 1/2 the old Bell Atlantic headquarters was in NJ... ther othe half in NY. Verizon would best be advised to stop advertising in places where they actually DO NOT OFFER SERVICE... that's wasteful and money that could be spent on equipment & deployment labor.

Well, remember this train terminal serves people living in all of northern new jersey, over into PA up into the southern tier of NY, as well as connecting to the jersey shore, philadelphia, atlantic city, camden, trenton.

Not Surprised...

Given my experience here in Reston, VA I'm not surprised that Verizon's subscriber additions for FiOS were lower than anticipated.

Verizon has spent who knows how much money installing FiOS in my condo complex--work has recently been completed--but when I try to order online (after logging in to my account and having a big screen saying "FiOS is HERE! Get started NOW"), I get an error page telling me to call them.

When I emailed Verizon about the problem, I was told they don't know why I can't order online, that I should call the office and that they hoped that resolved the issue--I should note that I have a hearing loss which makes the phone difficult for me to use and calling the Verizon office is something I do only as a last resort...

I emailed back that I did NOT consider the matter resolved, providing more detailed info on what browsers I'd tried and the url of the error message--I suspect that the problem lies in a Verizon database that has not been updated to reflect that FiOS is an available option. This was late on Friday afternoon so I'm hoping for some sort of response on Monday--I'm not holding my breath...'-}}

One of my neighbors called the number that was on the back of a "FiOS is HERE!" hang tag left on our doors a couple of weeks ago and no one has returned her call.

I really don't think Verizon is really interested in people actually signing up for FiOS service in our condo complex.

Got Fios over the summer...

...and love it. Got the triple play and have my cell phones (Verizon Wireless) all part of one bill. One HUGE bill, but one bill nonetheless.

The biggest difference for me is the picture quality for their tv service. It blows Comcast away.

When it comes to internet, I guess both Comcast and Verizon have insane speeds, so just get whomever is cheaper.

I hated Comcast's service at my home (I had to buy digital amplifiers from Circuit City, remember them?, for each tv and the cable modem to halfway maintain a signal. No issues with Verizon.

Phone sounds the same as copper lines to me.

Some here state that Verizon is expensive (yeah, it's not cheap), but with their triple play package vs. Comcast, at least tv wise, I got more channels for less money.

where's the fiber?

maybe if they actually put the fiber infrastructure up my block i could get it, instead of offering me the crap DSL and directTV combos

All you that want fios, think twice

Fios is not all that you think it is. Download speeds, compared to Comcast is not much better, but you will pay a primuim for the thought. I've had both, and its not worth the money to got to fios.

Re: All you that want fios, think twice

Uh, yea, they are not even close. Cable fluctuates wildly in throughput. My friend had comcast internet since they took over suburban cable here, and they switched to fios after seeing my service in action.
