More public propaganda

This nothing more than propaganda to get customer more used to the idea.

Here is the deal AT&T. I will gladly accept your usage based billing systems...Waite a minute...Just as soon as you give me the ability to remove the internet feature from my phone.

Give me the ability to remove the feature and they can bill however they want.

Cut down the sales

Thats once way to cut down the sales of their most popular selling phone.
I wonder what Apple (itself) has to say about this idea.

AT&T needs to encorage this data usage...

This is only just the beginning, later on Wireless Data usage will increase WAY MORE! Why not take advantage of the situation and actually try to put up more back haul, upgrade to HSPA 7.2 or HSPA+ 21Mbps and take care of this rather then make the users slow down? Data Caps really bug me because when LTE comes out I would love for you to tell users you are capped at some 2-5GB's a month.. just not happening. I like AT&T I just don't like this idea I call it a "can't fight it and I take the quit/ cheap way"

Goodbye A&TT

What the hell am I supposed to do with my Smart phone? Look at a text email once a day?

So what if I consume 200-600mb of 3G data in a month, Im not trying to abuse the service, I use my phone for work, entertainment and connecting to others, and with the features the iPhone has... It happens to encourage the consumption of data. ATT knew when it went into this that the iphone would consume boatloads of data... they got into this mess, they cant push it on to the customers.

You can't offer a certain level of service for years and suddenly expect all consumers to be happy with it....

I call mass exodus!

I would be more than happy to pay over $30 a month if I actually got a speed anywhere near the 7.2 theoretical mbps the iphone and att advertise. Heck if I got 1mbps I would be happy... my average 3g speed is .3mbps, just barley above edge speeds. My current level of service is not worth $30. And please don say my service is slow because of hogs like me, att needs to invest in a more robust network, especially after posting health profits period after period.

I am so sick of AT&T right now, after beating around the bush about caps on its DSL/Uverse service for the last few years they add this.

I pay $30 a month for DATA, not $30 for mobile email... and some wap pages.

I Cant put into words how disappointing this is. AT&T wouldn't be making 1/5th the amount moola on data they are making now if they didn't have the iPhone.

At this point as soon as my contract is over (Or if I can cancel it sooner because of the pricing model change.) I'm getting a Droid... I'm sick of apple & att thinking I'm going to play this game.

Goodbye Att so long....

Dont you dare cap me... ever!

Going in reverse!

SMS:
2007:
Incomming: Free
Outgoing: $0.10

2008:
Incomming: $0.30
Outgoing: $0.30

DSL: (Att) (3mbps/768kbps)
2008: $25/13
2009: $30/20

Iphone Data:
2007: $20 (with 200 free texts)
2008: $30
2010: $30 Ubertastically low cap and fees!

If anything all of the above products should be Cheaper as time goes on.

Some facts att released...

o We are nearly doubling the wireless spectrum serving 3G customers in hundreds of markets across the country, using high-quality 850 MHz spectrum. This additional spectrum expands overall network capacity and improves in-building reception.

Ok this is a good thing, Brownie points!

o We are adding about 2,000 new cell sites, expanding service to new cities and improving coverage in other areas.

Compared to the # of current sites, adding 2000 i bet is a 1% increase in cell towers for ATT, Not impressive at all.

o We’re adding about 100,000 new backhaul connections, which add critical capacity between cell sites and the global IP backbone network. We’re doubling the number of fiber-served cell sites this year.

Doubling the fiber towers.... ok so now their are, what?, like 2 towers served by fiber? lol

o We’re enabling widespread access to our Wi-Fi network – the largest in the country with more than 20,000 hotspots in all 50 states – allowing them to take advantage of the best available AT&T mobile broadband connection.

Att's hotspots are a joke... connecting to them are a pain, and you cant use them on the move. And their connections are not seamless to 3G

o We’re rolling out even faster 3G speeds with deployment of HSPA 7.2 technology, with availability in six markets planned by the end of the year.

Oh goodie encourage us to hog even more data faster on a network that cant support it. How about trying to make it so everyone can get atleast 1/2mbps before boosting speeds to some.

o We are preparing for field trials of next generation, LTE wireless networks next year, with deployment planning to begin in 2011. This schedule aligns with industry expectations for when a wide variety of compatible 4G wireless devices should be available.

I will fall over dead the day the LTE network is added to my town... please note we got 3g just 13 months ago.

Oh god, its now just a matter of time for Canada, Rogers, Bell and Telus will be all over this, eventhough there a 3 iphone carriers in Canada, the plans remain the same.

1 edit

I guess I'm not in the norm here..

but I would actually like this. I barely use the data on my phone, even with my area recently upgrading to 3G. I check my e-mail, I check some apps that access the internet and use the maps app and that's about it. I barely use 1 GB of data each month so this would actually benefit me.

I'm sure I'm not the only one as many others don't use data ll that much. I could actually live without data and simply use WiFi whenever I have access to it.

EDIT: I didn't realize this would only be "tiered" after 5 GB of data and we would still pay $30 a month. If that's the case, then I would be gone as soon as this happens.

I'll switch to Sprint as they seem to have the lowest cost of all providers.

Excellent!

When they make this change to the "Unlimited" plan that should give me the "out" that I'm looking for.

I love my iphone, but since I have jailbroken already I am ready to go over to TMobile when AT&T gives me an "out" for this contract.

If they.....

If they switched to usage based billing i'd get a free phone and stop using the iPhone.
