 | | ATT DSL New guy here. I've got AT&T DSL and when I test it at this site or or at SpeedTest.net I get around 5.7 MB/s, which is within the 3-6 that I signed up for. But when I actually download a file, I'm getting around 0.7 according to the browser's download window. Why the discrepancy?
I should add that I really don't have any complaints with it for the type of web browsing I do, which is mainly reading discussion forums. I was just curious why the actual speed is significantly less.

Grandview, MO | Re: ATT DSL StevenAS: the download rate is 683 kilobytes per second (683,000 bytes per second. Your speed test result is 5.7 megabits per second (5,700,000 bits per second). There are eight bits in a byte. If you convert the 683 KB/second to bits, you will see that the two speeds are comparable. By the way the first speed you list as 5.7 MB/s should be 5.7 Mb/s. Bits are represented by a lower case b, bytes are represented by an upper case B. | |
