Comments on news posted 2010-01-05 08:50:11: AT&T had been underpaying their Missouri taxes for several years, so in 2004 the phone giant was sued -- and decided to settle to the tune of $65 million. How does AT&T plan to pay for their own oversight? They'll be adding a $6. ..

| get prepaid, missouri let's see them try to add that $6.10 on to a net10/tracfone prepaid acount... hahaha! its also kind of illegal to add that surcharge to a broadband account-- nevertheless if they try... consider that point in your overall bottom line price on whether you decide to subscribe or not.
MO is also ripe for a municipal deployment of broadband anyway... so do you best to make it happen! now's the time | |
| | | Just got the bill Just looked at my bill this month.
-- Special Municipal Charge: $1.78
Municipal Charges Beginning November 1, 2009 you may see increases in the amount of Special Municipal Charges billed to your account. These increases will help cover payments to municipalities to settle claims related to past gross receipts taxes they imposed, and also includes such taxes on services covered by the settlement going forward. --
Let me add that $7.91 in surcharges are charged to my $16/month service. That's 49% just to have the line in my house. State, local and Federal taxes add another $2.50. In other words, 65% gets added to the basic service. I think that's pretty excessive.
I cringe every time I hear someone say they want to levy a fee or tax on a business. You idiot, businesses don't pay mandated taxes or fees, YOU PAY THEM DUMMY. Haven't these people taken basic economics courses?? -- TT

| | | AT&T screw up It does not surpries me that the company screwed up and is passing along the higher price to the customers. AT&T is a monopoly although their are other companies that compete, AT&T is so big that the government can't do anything to them that would really hurt them in the long run. Companies like AT&T buy up the little guy and are so big that there is little or no competition because a smaler company can't compete. A few years ago Southern New England Telephone was bought by SBC. SBC bough YAHOO. AT&T bought SBc-YAHOO. AT&T also bought DISH NETWORK. Then AT&T bought the Cingular Wireless cellular company. DOES ANY ONE SEE A PATTERN??????? MONOPOLY!!!!!!! | |
| | | What if What if you weren't a customer in during the time there was a "screwup" but are a new customer? Do you still get the $6.10 charge? | |
