Comments on news posted 2010-01-27 09:34:32: After buying Long Island paper Newsday for $650 million in 2008, Cablevision last year announced they were going to place the paper's website behind a paywall, apparently in an effort to save it from failing. ..

| | | Can't line my parakeets cage with a digital paper Newsday used to be a halfway decent newspaper back in the day. It had won 19 Pulitzer Prizes up to 2008 and it currently ranks 11th in daily circulation in the US (377,500 subscribers) down from 10th place in 2008.
Change is not always for the better. That only 35 people are subscribing confirms that. Since the Dolans have taken it over and changed the newspapers format and redesigned the Newsday website things have taken a turn for the worse.
The switch to a pay model is simply a feeble attempt at trying to create the appearance that you get some sort of added value by being a Optimum Online or Newsday paper subscriber. You do not. | |
