Remember the Miss America Pageant - its on Saturday Night

This pageant used to be a big deal. Now it is on in January; in Las Vegas; and on a cable channel few watch. What a huge drop from their past glory:

The 89-year-old pageant to be televised live on cable network TLC is hosted by actor and "Extra" host Mario Lopez, with help from Clinton Kelly of TLC's "What Not to Wear."

The panel of judges include radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, actress Vivica Fox, musician Dave Koz, Miss America 2002 Katie Harman, gymnast Shawn Johnson and former "American Idol" finalist Brooke White.

The crowning of a Miss America began in 1921 as a publicity stunt to persuade tourists on Atlantic City's Boardwalk to stick around after Labor Day. The bathing revue blossomed in the age of television into an American pop icon before fading in later years and losing it place on network TV in 2004.

Thrownback!

I've spent my weekend going around to stores all over looking for remaining stocks of Pepsi & Mountain Dew Throwback. PO'd to find 'em all just about out, despite there being nearly a month left for their production! Neverminding the fact that I must've spent a good $300, to date, on my existing hoard.

Just to add: I stopped at one convenience store & guess what I found? A "Blockbuster Express" DVD rental kiosk (wish I had had my camera!). Obviously taking a punt against Red Box. Except BB's is blue & has a LCD screen at the top showing the new releases (instead of RB's placard board).

Switzerland warns against using stolen bank data

This is remarkable. Someone steals Swiss banking data, and offers to sell it to foreign governments to catch tax cheats.

The Swiss President says foreign governments shouldn't do business with data thieves because that's against the law.... as Swiss banks continue to do business with people who enjoy Switzerland's privacy laws which help them evade taxes.

said by Swiss President :

"Generally speaking we believe that it is difficult for states to use illegal data," said Doris Leuthard after German press reports that a secret informant had offered to sell the German taxman the names of 1,500 Germans who have funds hidden in Switzerland.

"This would mean doing business with criminals, which is against the law," she added.
She sounds like a psychopath. No conscience? Most people would be ashamed to make the suggestion she did -- considering Switzerland's role enabling tax evasion.

The whole Swiss banking system has been based for decades(even aiding Nazi govt authorities from WW2 times) on helping rich white-collar thieves hide ill-gotten gains from other countries tax authorities and also criminal justice systems. Being their banking system is one of the biggest pillars of their entire economy, the President of the country will continue to defend their state supported criminal enterprise.

Thank you...

...to the anonymous donor who upgraded me to Premium. I finally noticed the little "system" doo-hickey flashing at me on the main page yesterday; I figured it was another one of those periodic reminders to update a review. Upon opening the message, instead, I was greeted with the happy news that a site philanthropist had upgraded my account.

As I was making the drive out to the hospital yesterday, I was reflecting about anonymous and their similar gift to me. I was grateful; for something to be grateful for.

I try to be thoughtful in my posts; but sometimes I wonder if they've had second thoughts...
