Comments on news posted 2010-02-24 13:27:10: With the exception of major cities like New York, Philadelphia, and Washington DC (where Verizon has signed citywide franchise agreements), Verizon's first $23 billion wave of fiber to the home installs are pretty much done. ..

MordhemLove it, Hate it. join:2003-07-10 Baltimore, MD | Here from Baltimore Yep, I'm one of those guys raising hell here in Baltimore! I have been in the battle over this Fios crap for way to long now, I have even took the battle to the Verizon web forums & I completely trashed their company on their own page. At least you can't call the truth slander.
It felt so good writing that post on their forums, comcast is a much more of a stand up company, so you can only applaud them for it! Why not, corparations are becoming to big for this country. Hell it seems unamerican to be able to do anything about it but really how long can this be allowed to go on. Its not the american way to have the population enslaved under corporate power eather. So hopefully one day we can make some kind of cap to control some of these company's or hell even better break them all up again make a size limit for these new company's & make the service a privatized utility with rules. Considering its impossible for the common man to just say hey I want to open up a cable company, because you can't. Another even bigger problem is that you don't trully ever want just one company controlling all of the country's media, hell the media is a very powerful thing! It could possibly start wars or even take over the country & also effect elections very easily. The Ron Paul black out?
but truthfully I'm now fully fed up with Verizon. What once started out as me being very hopeful for a competitor service coming to my door considering how developed Comcast is in my area, but to no avail. They all can claim what ever they want but Verizon cherry picked our richest counties (not to mention the richest counties in the country!) first then right before the end, they installed in areas like Dundalk, most likely just so they could say hey we install in not so rich areas to. That was only a few months ago when the service launched there & that was because of the flack they were already receiving considering they completly surrounded all the other areas of Maryland not loaded with money. But Like I said I'm done with it, so they can bring the fiber I wont be getting it... Nor will I ever subscribe to any other service as well. So they can keep their Fios & the rest of there shit to!
Bobby (I appoligise for any grammar errors or anything else, I been up all night with my baby .... ) -- "Thats Daddy Comcast to you Ma'bell." "I love TV but god dam don't burn my house down" "Comcast subscribers have been giving local new channels high ratings watching Verizon set peoples houses on fire" "Now Thats TV"

| | | Baltimore Wants to Know Why They Aren't Worth of FIOS Washington wants to know why we aren't worthy of FIOS.
An agreement was signed, but Verizon is only installing FIOS in the suburbs, not in the city, and says nothing, as far as I know, about it's plans.

Bringing the Broadband Future to the District
Verizon will offer service within three years of the franchise's April 30 effective date to all residents in an initial service area that includes parts of the Barry Farms, Brightwood, Columbia Heights, Crestwood, Fort Stanton, Friendship Heights, Historic Anacostia, Petworth, Shepherd Park, Sheridan, Tenleytown, Van Ness and Woodley Park neighborhoods.
Verizon will expand its service availability within six years to an extended service area that will include parts of the Adams Morgan, Benning, Benning Heights, Buzzard Point, Deanwood, Dupont Circle, Eastland Gardens, Ft. McNair, Lincoln Heights, Logan Circle, Shaw and Southwest Waterfront neighborhoods.
Verizon will make its services available throughout the rest of the District within nine years of the franchise effective date, subject to a possible extension of one year based on certain success-based criteria.

Doesn't look like the suburbs to me.... -- "We're going to start at one end of (Fallujah), and we're not going to stop until we get to the other. If there's anybody left when that happens, we're going to turn around and we're going to go back and finish it." Lt. Col. Pete Newell: 1st Inf. US Army
| | | | | Re: Baltimore Wants to Know Why They Aren't Worth of FIOS I kind of agree with the other gentleman. I am tired of waiting for Verizon to bring FIOS to Baltimore City. I live only 2 blocks form the Baltimore City/Baltimore County line (so close to FIOS but yet so far....although it seems lots of County folks are waiting but at least have a franchise agreement). The biggest insult is that Verizon keeps sending me those mailings touting their so-called triple play which consists of Verizon's lame-ass slow motion DSL along with their phone service and Directv for television. No thank you Verizon! I already have Directv (love it) as well as Comcast's 50 mbps/10mbps internet (love it too) and ViaTalk for VOIP (like it a lot). The only thing I have from Verizon is my over-priced cell phone service which I might kick to the curb soon as well! But then again with LTE...... hmmmmmm...... nah Wimax is here already....we'll see! Wayne | |

| | Baltimore's woes If the people in the City of Baltimore and the politicians in Baltimore agree this is a priority, why won't they float the bonds and do it themselves since Verizon doesn't seem to want to install it. Perhaps, its not such a wise business decisions and the bonds won't float..... | |
| | | If I Remember Correctly..... Baltimore was fighting Verizon tooth and nail over franchise fees. Now that Verizon has said forget it, not you want to complain. Youu want competition, you should have given Verizon the same franchise you gave Comcast and been done..... | |
