kudos:3 | BellTV in Canada is similar to Dish Canada had a similar lying-campaign in november 2009, when Bell TV advertised the number "100" with xmas decorations and a mention "the most HD channels" under it, making you think they have 100 HD channels. Nice tricky escape plan.
Only a small few number of US specialties are distributed in this country, and canadian broadcasters are lazy in launching an HD version of their channels.
Another difference with the US, all local OTA stations in both official languages (CBC, CTV, Global, Citytv, SRC, TVA, V) must be uplinked and distributed via satellite, and timeshifting in many timezones is offered to customers.

BellTV distributed 79 live HD channels which includes local HD stations, 12 Pay-Per-View HD channels, there's the Fireplace/Aquarium channel, and 26 "part-time" live sports channels like NFL Sunday Ticket and NHL Center Ice.
I guess Dish Network and BellTV hired the same marketing company.

| Channel count Back on topic, the simplest definition of how many channels you have is, 'how many simultaneous screens can you fill?'.
I can't put VOD content on more screens than I have VOD channels so even though I have 100s-1000s of 'choices' I may only have a few 'channels'
Whether HD is defined as HD carrier or content is debatable, IE video in center of HD image with sidebars having other content or non HD material provided on HD channel. | |
