No problems in Austin TX that I noticed:

I was on a conference call at 3pm CDT and also made several test calls earlier in the day... no problem seen.

AT&T is CHEAP but not THAT CHEAP

Believe me I know that AT&T KNOWS how to build redundant systems-they have beaucoup backup systems . They spend a boatload of money on them so this is more than a single server going down. AT&T wouldn't (or at least I hope not) run a critical production server with no fail-over system in place. They're not going to say what the details are but its got to be a major FV[K-up for this to have happened. Maybe I should re-think U-verse and stick with DSL!

You may have to have your phone profile reset

I just talked to Support and they had to reset my phone profile before my phone service was back up.

U-verse phone outage

This doesn't surprise me at all. Antiquated equipment. Clueless managers. Horrible support. I witnessed it all. AT&T is and always has been an aging dinosaur, and in all honesty the company as a whole is technologically clueless. As for some previous statements that AT&T has back-up systems, sure they do, but do they work?
I did DSL support for a year and watched their own internal support network go down multiple times. Sometimes for hours on end.

Re: U-verse phone outage

The backup systems work if they are managed and maintained correctly and I don't think they are clueless about technology. There are some damned sharp people at AT&T. I think its just a matter of the almighty dollar driving some real dumb-ass decisions.
As far as DSL support I question how effective it is. I have been with my mediocre AT&T DSL service going on two days and they are in no hurry to send a tech out to check the lines. Luckily I had a "BACKUP" in place a DSL provisioned through another provider that is working just fine.
AT&T is like any other mega corp. There are nitwits and there are intelligent people at all levels. MBAs trying to manage technology through Excel spreadsheets are a scourge.

piss on uverse

may I point out, Verizon FIOS never had a national outage of it's systems... just to piss on the uverse dsl system that thinks it can compete with fiber & docsis 3.

No outage Here

National outage is a bit extreme I think, I personally never lostmy U-Verse Voice service. I am on my phone frequently for business, any interruption I would be well aware of.

National Outage

They have not fixed the outage. I have been out since Monday evening. I have talked with their Level II support people 5 times, had three or four chat sessions and they have accomplished nothing. Going back to TWC - not worth the pain with ATT.

Re: National Outage

This is unacceptable for a Company such as AT&T. They should not have it setup where one massive failure can bring down the entire network . They should redesign their internal voip network maybe model it after their highly reliable pstn analog network . A voip soft switch in every Co! No wonder every one in my town who has a landline has the cable company telephone. Maybe they should ask the local cable company how to deliver phone. They seem to do a better job of it .

I'm STILL down

I'm still down after three plus hours (5 phone calls) and a no show scheduled on-site repair
