Comments on news posted 2010-06-17 08:20:53: As we've discussed, AT&T's "Microcell" service essentially acts as a miniature cell tower in a user's home -- routing cell calls over the user's broadband. ..

fiberguyMy views are my own.Premium join:2005-05-20 kudos:3 | It won't last... trust me.. There is not going to be ANY WAY that AT&T can count usage over the microcell towards data caps when it travels over some other provider's network.
I have Comcast here.. if I add a microcell to my home, AT&T is not going to be able to justify being essentially "paid" for the use of Comcast's pipes..
Wasn't it AT&T that made the big stink about "They're my pipes and I think google and ebay should pay for them"...
This won't go to long before some attorney or law firm launches a law suit against them and AT&T backs down from this ABSOLUTELY ridiculous notion of theirs.
The calls, I can see.. the data.. that's ridiculous. Calls at least still have to travel through at&t's phone switching system and there is a cost to that... but data.. no.

See that's just it, I wonder if the 3g data would hand off the comcast network to the att network? If it does, I could see that, but if it doesn't that's a different story. At that point I would just switch to WI-FI anyway, and not have to worry about the caps.
As someone else stated, if you are close enough for the micro3G to begin with, you are probably close enough to your WI-FI as well, and just use that. -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. | lets not give them ideas like it or not serve me and serve me well if you want my business, is basic business strategy (unfortunately ATT does Not follow that approach). You say move, keep talking, ATT will one up you and in major populated city areas where I figure you live ( or outside suburbs), down grade there networks and lower signal strength, just to get the masses to buy into there femtocell. Weather you are a Voice and/or Data user now your once 3-4 bar indoor reception goes to 1-2 bars, and what will ATT claim when you call them and complain...." Ohh its constraints on our network why your signal has dropped but if you purchase a femtocell from us...." you get the point. Lets not say it wouldn't be so as we already know ATT's devious ways.
I made 3 points earlier refer to them.

viperpa33sWhy Me?Premium join:2002-12-20 Bradenton, FL | Just remember Remember when you go into the AT&T store, make sure the CSR checks to see if your phone is 3g capable. Mistake on my part that I didn't check my phone first and the CSR sold me a microcell without checking my phone. I have a Samsung Magnet which is a 2g phone. Unless I want to pay full price for an upgrade, the microcell is going back tomorrow. Will then be back to crappy service. -- "I have always known that I will die alone"

This is just another example of why we must return to a more regulated market. AT&T cellular has overloaded their towers with iPhones and is raking in $$billions (I have another $300/mo bill to contest) and provides very average service. Can you imagine what the system will work like with the new iPhones coming on line?
Finally a tech "Fix" comes along to bail them out and they want to charge $20/mo for their "unlimited" plan. WOW! When will they learn. These ivy league, MBA, sociopaths that run these companies have to be re-regulated, by a truly independent PSC.
I recently purchase the MicroCell in San Fran and brought it back to Florida and it works well. 5 bars throughout my whole house and yard. Great technology being selfishly implemented by a short sighted management.( shades of BP?).
It will take a BP/Gulf Coast, Wall Street collapse type bandwidth disaster (major accident and no one can get a dial tone on their cell phone and people die.) and an act of congress before these bozos will do the right thing and offer these microcells for $50, no limit at home. Sure it will cannibalize their collapsing wired home lines, but hey, they will just have another satisfied iPhone user to replace them! Wake-up management.
