OptimumWifiI have had issues for some time now, like this, but on OptimumWifi. Some days, certain sites will not load yet I can go to my own Optimum Online connected router and they load fine. Two weeks ago, I was not able to get into www.longislandgasprices.com on OptimumWifi. Nothing would work. I was sitting in a local Starbucks and it still didn't work. I noticed I was connected to OptimumWifi but attwifi was available. I switched to attwifi and the site came right up. Two nights ago, I could not get to www.marinetraffic.com via OptimumWifi but I could access it from my wired OOL connection. Whatever this OOL problem is, I think it runs deeper than just the past day and is a core problem. |

that explains it!So thats why my aunts internet was so slow last night, I could barely load any pages at all while I was on her wifi. |

They need helpIt is pretty obvious that this is beyond their ability to correct if this has been going on for a day now. I did not expect to still not have access to my email when I woke up this morning. |

Haven't noticed a thing. All sites are loading on my end, I wasn't aware of any problems. I am using OpenDNS, and I don't use CV's email, but all sites have been loading for me. |

all eggs in 1 basketQuestion- who puts all eggs in one basket? I have TWC and my parents have optimum. I don't use any email accounts from my providers. I use Gmail, hotmail and another mail service so if something is wrong I can always use another. While optimum allows you to have email for sometime after you disconnect their service, Earthlink and VZ ( whose services I used in the past ) will cut your email on same day. So what if you switch providers? Are you going to lose your contact as well will need to go through tedious task of letting everyone know you have a new email address. Most of a time when I get email about new email address, i call my friends to verify if not the email is going to spam |

Where is OOL's "system status" page? (the Cablevision alert page, like so many ISP alert pages, tells users nothing).
Except that isn't a service status page. It is the std news release page all companies have. Does OOL have a system status page? Maybe, but this isn't it. |

Newsday.com and News12 are silent on a major consumer utility like email down for 2 days to millions of customers in their covered region. Yet type in "Verizon" into Newsday.com and you'll see a fresh report of a loose wire dangling from a pole in a backyard in Massapequa. Hmmm, any reason for suspicion? I question Newsday and News12 coverage on many issues. |

Easy fix for most!Get FiOS if you can and your service issues will all disapear with one simple install. Faster internet, more responsive and more up to date televison boxes, far superior DVR with much easier to use controls. 2 year contract scare you away? Scarey is going back to Cablevision after enjoying FiOS' superior product - I know, I'm there now and miserable with it. |

verizon's been busyinstalling NYC locations which are cablevision strongholds... symmetric 25/25 is great when compared to a 15/2 in apples to apples (digital voice vs digital voice product).
problems at cablevision tend to linger a few days, whereas verizon can't afford to let that happen (barring extraordinary circumstances). |

Corrected, thanks.
Interesting to me how many ISPs lack a functional network status information portal. |

I have HORRIBLE reception on Optimumwifi at many of the LIRR train stations, and it varies from day to day, all on the same hardware. Move ONE INCH and the signal will jump/drop massively, move another inch and it MAY come back, rinse and repeat. Mind you, this is on an OPEN platform, with no nearby obstructions. |

A lot of you don't know what is whatOK only the email is down, not Optimum Online internet service itself! Also Optimum WIFI is completely separate from Optimum Online. Optimum Online internet service is hard-wired into your home and connects through your modem. Optimum WIFI comes from wireless hotspot boxes that are connected to the cable lines on the streets. Look for them, They are rectangular boxes attached to a wire close to a pole. They only cover 100 ft each, so if you move around on a LIRR platform your connection will rise and fall and maybe even drop, depending on the spacing of the hotspots.
Only the email is down. Even if you connected to the internet on a 3g network on your cell phone, you could not get into your Optimum Online webmail right now because that is what is down, ok?
I've had Optimum Online for my ISP for over a decade and this has never happened before. Give Cablevision a break. Things break. They'll fix it and we'll all survive. |

VZ has raised FIOS pricing more times in 2 years than Brighthouse Road Runner has done in-- literally-- 10 years. (I am a customer of both.) |

I am getting (some?) OOL againAll of my OOL hosted email accounts were returning the error message "-ERR[SYS/TEMP] Service Temporary Unavailable". This means that the connection was ok but when you attempt to connect to the OOL POP Server it returned this connection reject message.
When I finally checked my email this afternoon (after it still returned the "go away" error message as late as midnight) I connected but did not watch to see how many messages actually come in. I have seen reports that they are dribbling in in reverse chronological order and that there might be lost email (due to the servers being restored from backups) but I can not say which claim is correct. Speaking as a IT professional who is familiar with how email is handled, I can only say that the error message above is an indication that CV routed the requests to a special POP Server whose role was to send the message and had no access to the actual mailboxes. We now seem to be connecting to servers who have messages for delivery but if they are the original servers and if the messages that arrived during the outage were queued and will eventually flow to them for delivery to the user is something I can only guess at (and hope will occur). |

Get better laptop/wifi adapter with proper antenna. For example, » www.radiolabs.com/produc ··· enna.php I have one, glues onto your LCD. You have to aim it right. |

cash back!time to claim some of that $29.95 in a refund if the internet is having trouble for more than 24 hours. all's fair... Verizon would have do it if they're FIOS went out or had problems. |
